UT Austin Architecture admissions - How holistic are they?

My son, currently in 10th grade, is focused on architecture as a future career. We live in Texas, so UT Austin is on the radar but I know it’s a very competitive school and the SoA is also extremely selective. His class rank won’t make him an auto-admit, and in general that means chances are very slim at even getting into the university.

However, reading the SoA FAQ made me wonder if he might have a chance, since the quote below sounds a lot like him (if his SAT scores are similar to his PSAT), and he has a lot of the other characteristics they say they value.

“We do not have minimum admissions requirements, but those who are admitted typically fall in the top quarter of their class, have a high school GPA of 3.0 or above, and have a high SAT or ACT test score.”

Are there any folks here who have experience with School of Architecture admissions who are willing to share insights?

Thanks in advance!
