Hello! My DD received an offer from UT Austin’s BFA Acting program last week. She LOVES the school, but we don’t know much about the program, except that it is relatively new (started in 2013, I believe). I can’t find much on CC about it; if anyone has any info or knows anyone in the program that we could connect with, we would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!
Hi - My daughter was accepted as well! It is a new program and they keep the cohort small, I think around 16 so the pool of recent grads is small.
Awesome!!! I’m glad to know of someone else who’s been accepted there. Ya’ll don’t live in Austin, do you? My D met another girl the other day who was accepted there who lives in austin.
My son was accepted- we are from NY- he is very interested in this program- so cutting edge and amazing faculty- we are trying to get down there to see it- can’t make a final decision without really checking out Texas- Austin seems like such a creative hub and a great city- we have only been to texas once (to see the Texans play the Jets- lol)
Hi there. So glad to connect with a few other families considering this program. We are going to visit next weekend. Austin is amazing; I can imagine that it would be a very cool place to study acting, having such a creative vibe and so much film stuff going on there!
Exactly our thoughts- my son thought the student meeting was great- he liked the vibe. He is very excited to get busy with the next phase of life after its been on hold-
Did you schedule something with the school? Just curious because I am looking at flights and it seems they are a little challenging out of here over the next few weeks- I am off the week before Easter so we are trying to go for a couple of days that week- I was hoping to arrange a tour or something like that-
So much pressure with seeing schools and waiting on final acceptances- we are still waiting on a few schools… ugh! lol
Wait…there was a student meeting? When was that? I’m not sure Virginia participated in that. As for campus tours, the main university is doing them, but the program is not and they said we can’t even come inside the building. Ugh. UMich isn’t even doing campus tours. So hard for these kids to make a big decision like this without really getting a feel for the place/campus/people!!
HI- so my son said it was an accepted student creative social hour- they have it every monday
the email was from College of Fine Arts New Creatives Social Hour- they won’t have this Monday due to a break but he said it was an awesome way to ge to know kids from different areas who are accepted. It was moderated by older students.
I am bummed about not being able to tour- this is going to be an issue since most of our schools are far away! Oh well- gotta take advantage of the virtual events and try to find kids in the program and pick their brains-
I don’t think the theatre students have had a meeting yet but a get together for accepted theatre students was mentioned for the near future. I’m sure they will email when they set a date.
Any further thoughts by your son on UT Austin?
Hi- Yes- we are heading there on 3/29 to see SMU and UT in a quick trip- We are intrigued by this program-and they offered a nice incentive- he has a lot to think about but we are still waiting on rutgers and BU How about you guys?
Oh nice. So he got some scholarship money at UT? When did you all hear about that? We are here now…was hoping for same for my D but haven’t heard anything.
no not UT, SMU I meant- small compared to overall price but nice just the same-
really looking to evaluate rigor and opportunity- All of the programs offer amazing things- there are so many factors- my son feels the vibe in Austin has what he is looking for creatively.
