i accept that. What i meant was that the dif. between 17 and 52 is noticeable... as the gap is fairly large when compared to say rice and JHU which are 2 places apart...

dude, its your life, why are you trusting the opinions of people whom you dont even know? make your own decisions, youre an adult now, its your future.

smartguy--asking for opinions doesnt mean im not accepting my new status as an "adult". ultimately the decision is mine. it is just good to know other people's perspective on the matter. if you dont want to give your opinion, then please dont comment on this thread

to everyone else: thanks for the input. ut is definetly out for me, business is just not something i want to pursue (i applied just because it was one of the better programs at ut, which i know was a stupid reason). i would choose rice over ut, but i think im basically set on georgetown (however i still have like 4ish days to change my mind...i havent sent in the deposit yet).

hi,
Thats cool.. as long as you follow ur heart then its great.... Georgetown is a gr8 place too and I wish you best of luck

And please post your final decision..

i love rice but for business i would take UT honors...think about this very carefully

I would focus less on the perceived ranking or prestige and more on where you feel comfortable. As a Rice admit and Business Honors student, you have already established yourself into the top echelon of UT students, making the 52 vs 17 ranking irrelevant.

UT as a overall is nowhere as good as Rice, but UT Business is one of the top undergraduate business program (top 5 US news I think), and honors is very much hard to get into, and thereby with it comes the prestige (i think avg SAT was 1470 or nearby for business honors). Add on top of that the full ride, and I would say UT is much better if you are career oriented.

Of course, if you are looking for a more wholesome college experience, I say go with Rice, but I still think what UT is offering you is greatttt.

Old thread, but 2 points:

1) the 52 vs 17 thing is meaningless. The only reason for the spread is because of the weightings USNWR uses for the undergrad rankings that favor selective universities. Without arguing whether or not selectivity makes for a better undergraduate experience, the fact remains that it has absolutely NO bearing on institutional quality in terms of faculty and departments. More tellingly, the peer assessments scores for Rice and UT are exactly the same - 4.1. No spread there.

2) "UT as a overall is nowhere as good as Rice" ??? Obviously a statement with no basis in reality. The correct statement is UT's undergraduate experience is not as good as Rice. As an overall university, UT-Austin is far superior to Rice. Just look at any world ranking sources (THES, etc.) or prestigious academic rankings like the NRC, or even the least academic of the bunch - USNWR departemental rankings in the sciences, engineering, humanities, and professional programs. Do you realize that UT is ranked above Rice in ALL of these??
