So I was recently offered to do the CAP program and be able to get a guaranteed admission to UT Austin for my sophomore year. I’m just going to say that UT Austin is my dream school and I will do just about anything to get me there. I have three options. I can do the CAP program, I can go to ACC and transfer, or I can go to A&M (I was already accepted). I don’t like A&M, I visited and it just wasn’t for me, so I don’t think that is much a choice. CAP would be perfect, but I took IB classes and will (hopefully) have tons of college credit when I graduate from high school this year. It says that available CAP courses may be very limited to students who have college credit, so I’m kind of thinking that it would sort of be a waste of time and money. Does anyone know if the college credit gets accepted by UT Austin when I get transferred sophomore year? My other option would be to go to ACC, this is cheap and very easy to get my GPA up. I could get at least sophomore standing in a year and transfer as a junior. I just feel like ACC isn’t a true college experience and I’m not guaranteed admission to UT Austin if I transfer from ACC. I would ev crushed if that happened. What would you guys do? I need suggestions quick!!!
Where else did you get in? Tech? UTD? UNT?
The best option in my opinion is A&M -hands down, but if you hated it, then I would recommend one of the schools above for someone with a lot of IB credit.
@gettingschooled I only got into A&M. I’ve emailed the admission counsellors and asked soo many questions! so hopefully I will be less clueless soon.
Hi. I was in the same situation as you last year. Got into A&M, Baylor, UTD, etc., but I got denied from UT. I didn’t want to do CAP because I don’t plan on majoring in the liberal arts major and hated the thought of attending any other school than UT so I just opted out to just go to ACC. I think I made the right decision because school is free and you basically get a free 4.0. Yes, it’s kinda lonesome because you’re not going to a “real” college but it is always up to you to change your situation! I am hopefully transferring to UT for the fall semester. But yeah, if you really want to go to UT, I’d recommend going to ACC. Also, because the PACE program has started, there are actually some smart people too. I’m not saying that all people who go to community colleges are dumb, but we all know that sometimes you wanna associate yourself with people that align with your academic goals.
There are still several Texas schools which will accept you. If you get an IB diploma, the state requires the colleges to award you 24 college credits.
Where are you located? Are you in any major city?
@texaspg I’m in Austin.
@Ayeboy11 I thought about ACC but I’m kind of scared that I won’t get accepted into UT. I feel like there are lots of other smart strategic people out there that went to ACC, so the applicant pool must be huge and the spaces at UT are limited for transfers.
What are your stats - rank and SAT score? UT Dallas might even give a scholarship based on GPA and SAT score if you meet certain numbers. University of Houston gives rolling admissions although not money.
How about transfers from A&M to UT? You should ask admissions.
GPA unweighted : 3.72
Rank : 45/514
ACT : 31 combined

http://oue.utdallas.edu/aes/ - don’t know if they will still give these out but your ACT qualifies you for $3000 a semester.
UH does not show scholarships but lets you apply.

I think you should look into A&M with a transfer option or check into one of these schools.
Indeed, you are taking a risk. However, life is but a risk. Sometimes you know what you want and you have to take that risk. But I’m wondering if what you’re majoring in? I know that engineering/business/computer science will require a 3.9+ GPA and even then it’s not guaranteed so maybe reconsider going to ACC if you’re majoring there. However, I think for other majors you shouldn’t be too worried about getting in if you have a solid GPA. Maybe RTF, but I don’t think there are any other majors that are super competitive.
If you are interested in knowing anything about UTD, go to the thread “What do I do”. I just wrote what I think are the pros and cons of that school. A lot of it depends on your major and how important big sports to you. UTD is a great school for the sciences, business, engineering and art and technology. If you are a serious student in one of those areas, you should consider UTD.
I’m sorry the thread is “What should I do”.
I’m planning on majoring in environment science.
The closest degree at UTD is geosciences which they have up to a PHD level which is a good sign. I do think A&M would be a good choice for this degree. I know of many students who did not really want to go to A&M but ended up there and have done very well and it turned out to be a good decision. I had a nephew who I thought would never fit in there but he is a die hard Aggie now and in medical school. Think very hard before turning down A&M for this degree.
Hi!
Well, I should probably start by saying that I’m a CAP student myself at UT Tyler. If your major is in the College of Liberal Arts, then getting in won’t be challenging, as long as you have the 3.2 GPA and 30 credit hours. Now, I understand your situation, I was also debating between TAMU and CAP. TAMU, really wasn’t my college. If you have college credits, then you can take classes that you don’t have credit for. I know that It is pass May 1st, but in my personal opinion, I would say that CAP is a great option if UT Austin is your dream school. If you chose not to do CAP, I wish you the best of luck, if you did chose CAP, well you can always sent messages or reply to this post if you want to know more about being a CAP student. Hope this helps!
Thanks! I’be accepted the cap agreement but I’m probably going to A&M. I just got into UCSD and its my dream but I can’t pay 50k a year.
