Oh my goodness, this wait is truly making me so nervous!
Yes… I feel for all of you applicants, including my daughter. She has two acceptances in-hand, but is eager to find out her fate regarding UTexas. But after that, all 12 of her remaining decisions will not happen until March. That is an excrutiating time frame…
So I’m really nervous about getting into UT and it is my #1 school. Do you think I will be able to get in?
I’ll be majoring in kinesiology- applied movement science (school of education)
Non ranking highschool
-4.4 unweighted GPA
-27 ACT
-1260/1600 SAT
White female (I heard that matters)
Secretary and president of NHS
Founder of a “big sister little sister” program
200+ service hours
Founder of a church theater program
Theater for 4 years
3 years of varsity volleyball and 1 year of JV
Internship with an Occupational Therapist (1 yr)
Buddies with 2 special needs girls
Performed theater in Scotland for an international festival
-Letters of rec were 8/10
-Essays were 8/10 (I worked for months on them to be perfect)
The only thing really holding me back is my test scores.
If I applied by September 9, when do you think I’ll get my acceptance/denial?
Thanks y’all
There are rumors about a big push of decisions coming out on Friday, because that was the day a bunch came out in past years. @flowerchild01 Your resume is super good! Your scores are just a bit below average but UT is known for not just looking at the numbers, my ACT isn’t the best either so we are in the same boat. I applied early August and still haven’t heard back, but my friend who applied in September heard a few weeks back so there is no way to tell the timing. All we can do is wait and cross our fingers!
Hello all!
I recently applied to the University of Texas at Austin and wanted to know the likelihood of getting accepted. My first major is Civil Engineering and second is CNS, undeclared. Here are my numbers:
SAT: 1420 (Math 770, Reading 650)
GPA: 3.91 (unweighted)
Class Rank: 16%
(Texas Resident)
Extracurricular:
-130 hours of community service
-Science Olympiad
-Math Olympiad
-Varsity Soccer
-Student Council
-Junior World Affair Council
-College Readiness and Leadership Program
Thank you!
@deluxan Your scores are just outside the academic admit requirements so you’ll likely get in. However, just a heads up - It is rumored that your odds of getting into engineering goes up if both your majors are engineering.
@deluxan Oops. Disregard the academic admit comment - I was thinking of TAMU.
Sure wish my D would hear something soon. Even “deferred” is better than hearing nothing. She has some strong credentials and I have BA and Master’s from UT, so we really thought we’d hear something by now. She is around top 9 or 10% at a highly competitive school (doesn’t rank). Anyone think any Non-Auto Admits will at least hear an update sometime soon?
@Longhornalum2 My S was a non auto admit and was accepted in November to RTF and then heard from Plan II (COLA) this weekend. I hope that helps! Good luck to your D! Hang in there. I have lots of friends who didn’t hear until Feb last year.
My D just received an email that she was denied BHP. Not even interviewed!!! Now I’m wondering about McCombs. She has 1450 SAT & National Merit Commended! What the heck are they looking for???
I’ve been watching this board for several years. Sounds to me like getting into BHP requires essentially perfect stats AND being hit by lightning (aka incredible luck). No one should feel bad that they didn’t get in. It’s like getting into Harvard without $$ or legacy. Getting into McCombs at all is a big achievement. Celebrate that!!! You will have loads of opportunities. Trust me on this.
Accepted to UT Austin today OOS. Honestly so shocked but beyond excited!!! I have an ACT of 29 and a 4.14 GPA and attend a non-ranking school in Washington state. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!
@brainiac9902 Congrats! How did you find out? Did they send you an email or did you check your portal?
Congratulations!!! Do you mind sharing your major and when you applied?
Also, did you have any outstanding extracurriculars that you think might have contributed greatly?
@BreadedPrincess I think it varies. One of my friends got his decision through text message and others just checked their portal.
I’m still not aware of any engineering non-auto admits that have received acceptances.
Thank you @TexasMom2017-your words are very helpful and wise. Now we’re crossing our fingers for McCombs. Will be beyond disappointed if we don’t get in. D is around 9-10% (school doesn’t rank) so even though we’re in state, we’re not auto-admit and now we’re worried. Don’t know if we’ll be able to wait until late Feb. D decided today to apply to an additional # of schools.
@Longhornalum2 Sorry to hear! McCombs should be a guarantee. It might be because BHP looks for leadership and business experience. Rank is important too.
@Longhornalum2 hang in there! I think she’ll get in, but it is competitive and I understand your stress. My son is top 14%, 35 ACT, and I think he’ll get into CS (my older son did with similar stats), but the competition changes each year and you just don’t know. We made sure he has good backups. (I’m an alum, too.) Good luck and just assume you probably won’t hear til late Feb.
@edwards70 Congrats. When did your son apply? My daughter is also an OOS RTF applicant. I believe that she finalized her application around 11/1 to 11/2. She is of course now eager to hear and checking her portal online daily. At least there is a chance that she will hear soon or soon-ish. All of her remaining decisions will likely not occur until March. The waiting is the worst part of the process…
