@Longhornalum2 From what I’ve been told having family that graduated from UT is not a factor in acceptance to UT @ Austin. I noticed you keep using the word “we” in your post. I wish your daughter good luck and hope that she is accepted at HER dream school to follow HER dreams.
@Longhornalum2 my son attends a non ranking school here in Texas too, he is applying to 8 different universities. He is trying to get into the Engineering Program but it is so competitive so fingers crossed. He did get into Texas A&M, UT Dallas (last option) and The University of Colorado ( which is another last option).
@BreadedPrincess and @honeynut12, in response to your questions:
- I found out on my application portal
- I applied on October 15th and my major is Spanish
- I do a lot of volunteer work; I built homes in New Orleans, worked with a rural community in the Dominican Republic, taught Spanish to middle school students in rural Mississippi, and was a tutor at a local school for immigrants and refugees
@NotSoPatient I am completely aware that alumni status is not at all a factor in acceptance at UT. It is however a factor for our family as it makes UT most attractive. I say “we” because we have a strong, tight-knit family. I am glad that we do and wouldn’t have it any other way.
@amottmers I am wishing you all the best. Fingers crossed!!! We will all hold our collective breaths until Feb. or whenever.
@WWWard My S applied in late September. I hope your D hears soon but don’t be worried if you don’t hear until Feb. I don’t think they have released too many decisions yet so there are still plenty of spots left. Did you visit campus yet? If not, there is an RTF tour and communications info session that give a lot of specific information about the program.
@amottmers If your thinking about Colorado I would look at School of Mines, I’m not sure if their deadline has passed or not but they are a great Engineering School and I got in with only a 25 on my math section on my ACT (30 overall) and I go to a nonranking hs as well
@amottmers Son is also at a non ranking school. The UT Engineering admissions presentation told us that UT, for unranked schools, calculates a rank.
UT has a model that uses rank and test score and compares against UT Freshman GPA. Thus for unranked schools, UT takes your child’s GPA and then the history of kids from your school and then calculates the “predicted” rank to use in the Academic Index. That is your child’s “rank” for the AI is based on the performance of prior students from your school. The rank fortunately is not at all tied to where they think you are in the class, just a number that predicts the freshman GPA and from there, students can be ranked by the UT admissions office based on the AI.
“The Academic Index (AI) is determined by a multiple regression equation utilizing a high school
percentile derived from an explicit class rank and class size [1-(class rank/class size)]*100, and
verbal, math, and writing test scores from the ACT Assessment or the SAT Reasoning Test. The
equation produces a predicted freshman year grade point average”.
The equation is on page 35 of the Best Practices In Admissions UT White Paper.
For highly selective programs such as Engineering UT also calculates a Personal Achievement Index.
Thanks @jedwards70 No… we have not visited yet… but we are looking forward to it.
I just got accepted into Cockrell School of Engineering for Biomedical Engineering!
So far all engineering today. No Liberal Arts?
Any College of Natural Sciences?
Is this all for today or will decisions keep posting into the evening? Are they all updated at once?
Idk, but I’m gonna keep checking throughout the evening just in case.
@BreadedPrincess DS was just accepted to CNS undeclared. He is OOS.
His CNS Honors application is still in review.
Congrats to all who got accepted!
It would be great if those who got accepted mentioned if they are OOS and when they applied.
My D just got into Chem Engr!
So basically only engineering and natural science kids got in today. Any chance college of education will be accepting students tomorrow?
School of Undergraduate Studies Undeclared (OOS).
Congrats to those who got admitted! And could anyone tell me when you guys completed your application? They received the last part of my application on Nov. 1st. I’d like to estimate when I will hear the result.
