UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

@AngryCarp, good luck with your other applications. Sorry this one did not work out for you.

@lots2do Thanks

@AngryCarp It’s a State of Texas mandate that UT auto admit the top 7% into UT, and then everyone is holistically reviewed for their major. Texas A&M, Texas State, Tech, etc. all must auto admit the top 10%. As the parent of a student currently at UT, I can tell you she worked very hard to earn her place there with top grades, top AP scores, high ACT/SAT scores, a very rigorous 4 years of HS course work, etc. I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you, but there’s no need to disparage those who do get accepted. I am sure you will find the perfect school for you. Good luck

^That is probably the reason that the auto admits haven’t got their auto admit status on mystatus yet and applicants like me (OOS) haven’t had their changed from “complete” to “in review”, I guess they wanted to get the spring/transfers out of the way before they start looking at Fall 2017 freshman applicants. Maybe it was always like this, but I don’t know.

@NotSoPatient Oh I’m not trying to disparage anyone. Just talking about the admissions process. I’m sure your daughter is very qualified for UT and deserved her spot. Thank you for your condolences

@AngryCarp I am so sorry. I know how disappointing it can feel. My DS felt it last year when he was offered wait list, CAP and PACE. He had high credentials (NM Commended and an internship in his major during his Sr year at an aerospace company which goes full time every summer thru college, Etc) but he was not auto admit and while he could have been a student there anyway through wait list as a liberal arts major, he had acceptances to his major at other schools. He grieved the denial a day or two, then we got over it and moved on and he is thriving where he is. Thrive wherever you go and make the most of it.
You say elsewhere that UT was a reach for you but I know it is disappointing nevertheless. Know that the denial wasn’t personal.
Best of Luck wherever you go and keep working hard.

On Twitter, someone asked UT Admissions for an update on decisions. UT Admissions responded that there was no news on that yet, and to keep in mind that decisions can be released up to March 1st. I’m still surprised that there has been no movement even on confirming auto admit status for anyone. It seems to be taking longer this year. No idea why.

@NotSoPatient look at my post above, if I had to guess I think that would be why. Remember, the first wave doesn’t usually come until mid-november, so whether the auto admit status comes up/everyone’s mystatus goes to “in review” happens when it did last year or 2-3 weeks later doesn’t really matter since they aren’t rolling, they just do waves.

In summary, it is just a waiting game.

One question I’ve been wondering about: say you have two applicants that don’t fall into the auto-admit category, they are equal in all respects except that one is in-state and the other out-of-state. Does the in-state candidate have an edge at UT Austin?

No @Axonta

Texas state law requires 90% of admitted students to be Texas residents.

I could be wrong but I heard that UT has 75% quota for auto admits, 15% in-state non-auto admits and 10% to out-of-state and International.

On Twitter today, UT Austin Admissions said that they will confirm auto admit status for eligible applicants soon. They also said they have not changed their process from prior years.

Well it appears to have changed for when they confirm auto admit. See my post above (#26 in the thread above). They started confirming last year in late September.

Essay B looks okay, essay C sounds too “down to earth” and A, eh still grinding it out. I will have over 30 credit hours of dual credit college courses by the end of this semester. Is that bad? Will I not be able to apply as a freshman? And these lack of creativity and life in my essays are scaring me :frowning: I’m not the guy that leaves his house too often. I’ll pull an all nighter tonight to power edit my essays and submit them all tomorrow and finish my entire application tomorrow. That is possible right? Given finished essays I can submit my app within an hour or so? Also - does UT Austin require a scan of a signed transcript or just an open unsigned one?

@xrocker You will be able to apply for freshman admission. Alot of us are coming in with some dual credit or AP credit. Also, get your essays done but do not submit them immediately. Take a short nap or something so that when you wake up you’ll be able to read your essays and spot mistakes.

@xrocker UT requires an official HS transcript including your class rank if your school ranks.

I’m a UT applicant for fall 2021 and applying to the LAH program. I know the priority deadline is today, but do you have to have the honors AND regular admissions application complete by today (Oct 15)? I have the honors application done and submitted. My regular application, however, is incomplete only because my transcript and ACT score is not submitted yet. Will I still be considered for the October 15th deadline? Thank you!

Finally submitted it after 10 hours of work and 2 hours of edit. Is it bad that I only took 12 hours to write and edit all three essays? Even though I work about 30 min a day per week for like 50 weeks there we no new ideas that hit my head after the initial blast of ideas I got for the first hour or so on these essays. Also, I accidentally didn’t add a dual credit course that I just signed up for recently. Would that be much of an issue?
