UT Austin Class of 2021 Thread

@gettingschooled My daughter is still waiting. She applied 8/2. I am guessing early October. Then the wait for major begins.

Does UT Austin have the concept of academic admits a la Texas A&M or is that just a TAMU thing?

No UT Austin does not have that concept. They have auto admits and review admits.

Has anyone been accepted yet? By this time last year my older child was accepted. My son is in state auto admit. Just wondering.

@fallfever Nope. Nada. Just “Your application for admission is complete”.

Same here. “Your application for admission is complete”.

This definitely seems like a change in the process from years past. Auto admits who applied early heard in late September last year and that was pretty consistent with the previous year. Kind of makes you wonder what else will change.

Same here. “Your application for admission is complete.” Last year there was a Status area on the right side of the screen above the major choices. I don’t see that this year. It does seem to be dragging out longer this year. I also don’t see access to the Presidential Scholarship this year. Does anyone have access to that to apply?

@gettingschooled @NotSoPatient Something definitely changed. Let’s see what happens after the priority deadline…

So this October 15th deadline thing… I’m on time if I submitted at 11:59 PM October 15th right? Or is it BEFORE October 15th? Man my English comprehension is way below par. Sometimes I wonder how I even got over a 400 on the English section.

By 11:59 pm on October 15 but honestly, why push it? Just playing my mom card

Would submitting it after that mean that I’ll be considered during a “second” round or something? I’d hate myself if I didn’t go through all of the decision rounds that UT Austin does. Essay A… I need help on that. I lack too much of a social life to even describe what is outside my house, and this essay is asking about my community. pls send ideas fast pls pls pls

@xrocker Those who apply before the priority deadline find out their decision earlier than those who apply before the regular deadline. So I guess you can say that the regular admission deadline is the “second” round. And essay A is talking about your environment. This does not necessarily mean talking about people outside of your house. You can either choose to talk about your family, your home, your neighborhood, or your community (school, religious group, fandom, or even online community). Then you express how they have shaped you into the person you are today. Just make sure to answer the question and you’ll be fine.

My English is vastly inferior to that of a regular person because I never really paid attention to grammar rules in elementary and middle school and high school teachers only give a brief review over them. I feel horribly behind. Say, if a grammatical error that isn’t major pass through, would that kill my admission chances because I’m really scared?

@xrocker First of all, from what I can tell your English is very good . Don’t be so hard on yourself. Second, there are websites like Grammarly that can help you check your grammar. Try that.

Has anyone heard back from UT Austin yet?
Also, is there anyone out there who got into Cockrell school of engineering in state but outside the top 7% rule?

I don’t see a sudden explosion of decision posts as of right now… I guess we’re still playing the waiting game. Talking of decisions, this’ll be where we post them right? I also didn’t submit it yet. Still holding it off like the high school senior I am.

@Helloooooooooo My DD is auto admit, applied 8/2, and she hasn’t heard anything from UT at all so far. She is applying to Cockrell.

@xrocker UT Austin is a very competitive school to get into so you are not doing yourself any favors by delaying your application submission. This is not the time to have senioritis.

I’m a Spring applicant and was denied today, which was surprising because I only applied 9 days ago. Good luck to everyone here! You’ll need it; the UT admissions process is very flawed and admits many academically unqualified people with good class ranks over academically qualified people with < top 7% class ranks. Hmm… Maybe my “Personal Achievement” index would’ve been higher if I had done some more volunteer work purely for the sake of college admissions. Darn
