UT Austin class of c/o 2022 admissions

The Texas app asks for your parent info and what colleges they attended if any no?

i applied in late october. i am non auto instate, but i am only a few people off auto. it’s very discouraging to not have heard back yet, because i now have to spend hundreds more dollars on more college apps…i feel like i an very qualified, but all i can do now is wait…

Are interviews for mcconbs honors done already or will they have some more in the coming weeks

@cudontknowme UT is very clear that legacy status does not matter. We asked.

@patagonia23 we’re in the same boat. very frustrating to say the least, but i’m wishing us both the best.

@ugradbiz I applied in the middle of October. Good luck!

@amelchd Rank is one factor in the admission formula for major. It’s probably a good idea to focus on yourself instead of focusing on class mates who heard first- they someone hit the formula well enough to be accepted. The PAI socre is half of the acceptance criteria so essays and things like that matter a lot.
@cudontknowme - my accepted child is not legacy. They don’t ask legacy questions on app and I know a ton of Longhorns( even prominent ones) whose kids have been declined.

@tb2000 so people who didn’t get their decisions yesterday weren’t good enough right?

@sorashiro No, - 90 percent or more of next year’s freshman class still has not heard. But that’s no reason to say anything bad about the 10 percent or less who have heard. Noone understands why people hear sooner than others. I have had two longhorns- one heard the very last day possible and one heard early- neither was auto admit and the one who heard last had a higher ACT score than the one who heard early; the one who heard early had better grades- Same exact major.- this is why i think there is no real specific logic behind the timing of the admissions.

@sorashiro wow…that sounds pretty harsh.

Well, if you are a little more positive you could also figure that they didn’t get it because UT thinks they might need to pull their application after they get accepted to one of the excellent early action schools that released this week

Or that they have probably let in less than 20% of the ones they are going to let in…

Or that some majors haven’t released ANY acceptances or only acceptances for ones how were getting into an honors program…

Or maybe some who were accepted had Ivy League stats so their early acceptances are probably a result of UT wanting to come out same week as Ivy and top 20 schools release some decisions.

Or maybe in hopes of those tip top kids not doing more applications over Christmas…

Or you can figure we HAVE NO IDEA which order UT is accepting people…maybe it is completely random? Who knows! Go enjoy your Christmas break!

I think everyone needs to settle down and not bash other people who were admitted. How the admissions office determines who hears back in what wave is beyond a mystery. There are still several waves coming up and it’s a common trend for UT to not admit the majority of their students until after the first semester. For those who are still waiting to hear back (myself included), we should anticipate on not hearing back until Feb 1st or March 1st (depending on if you applied priority) and if you happen to hear back earlier, then consider it a fortunate surprise.

@Mills6 I’m one of the many people who haven’t heard back yet. I’m saying this only because one of my friends who is rank 12 with a 1590 SAT and MechE related EC’s didn’t get it while another acquaintance of mine who is rank 204 with a 1450 SAT got in for the same major(mechE).

@sorashiro so maybe it is completely random! Could be. We just don’t know so no reason to think they don’t want anyone.

Daughter admitted yesterday to College of Natural Science (Applied Mathematics/Statistics)

We moved here from OOS this year, her senior year obviously. Husband has been here for 2 years so she qualifies for in-state tuition.

GPA: 5.05/ 4.0
SAT : 1300 Math 660
Current school does not rank
Not a ton of EC but she is a nationally ranked athlete
Well rounded, good essays, letter of rec from her AP Stats teacher

@freshmesh167 Do you know how many waves there’ll be from now up until feb 1? I don’t know where to find the historical release dates.

@sorashiro There are usually one or two in January plus one in early February. Someone speculated that their could be one this Friday as well before UT closes for winter break.

@freshmesh167 Alright. So there’s basically 3 waves at max before the priority date is over.

Since they have the priority deadline this time, there might be more waves than the previous years. Every year UT usually closes after the 3rd Friday for winter break but this time they are a closing a week after. There will probably be one. Based on past years u should definitely expect a wave on Jan 19.

There have already been three waves this year, which is completely different from the previous years. November 17, December 8 & 15-so it seems maybe they will be releasing decisions more frequently this year. I know it is hard not to second guess why some of us were not part of the waves (yet), but we should be very happy for the students who have gotten in, and stay positive for those who have not heard yet. There are many amazing students who are still waiting to hear, so chin up everyone!

Seems to be a lot of discord in this forum. But yeah, I applied to UT and still haven’t heard :frowning: not an auto admit, but I’m not really expecting to be accepted because of my rank and SAT test scores. I did apply because of just the chance that I might get accepted. Anyways, good luck to all!
