Same message about needing more time has now been posted for my DS, it wasn’t there early this morning. Clearly this Priority experiment hasn’t worked very well. Beyond disappointing…ugh.
Daughter applied in October. Got same message
I wonder if anyone did not get this message…
I think this indicates deffered as it moved to RD from priority dead line.
I just got that message also
We’re still reviewing your application.
Thank you for completing your application for admission by the priority deadline. We need additional time to make a final decision about your admission. We will post your decision here no later than March 1.
Are you kidding me? DD’s application has been complete since August 7, 2017. Eight months is RIDICULOUS! There better be a great big pot of gold waiting at the end of this UT rainbow! Or a Willy Wonka golden ticket!
Wow- this is ridiculous. UT needs to get their act together.
I got the same message. does anyone think this means deferred or did they just set the deadline back?
My mom just called admissions and they said it is a generic message and priority applicants should still hear by february first. Idk what that means though it didn’t really make sense
It seems like most people got it so I’m thinking they just set the deadline back.
I called as well, and admissions said priority applicants will hear by Feb. 1- though she could not say why the message was worded that way. I literally started almost crying when I read it. The admissions counselor also said there was no ‘wave’ last week, and CC is a rumor mill and not to read it.
It sounds like all priority applicants got this message, they probably needed more time so they set the deadline back. I don’t know why admissions said we should still hear on february 1st
I haven’t really posted a lot here as I have tried to be patient. My comments are directed to those in the situation of not knowing if they are admitted to UT, not just the program or major of their choice. I am hopeful that the reviewers are doing a great job and being super thorough, however, pushing back deadlines really messes up housing. Best of luck to all who are admitted after Feb 1 finding decent housing either on or off campus. If there are any university folks who also follow these threads, please be cognizant that pushing back deadlines makes parents put down multiple housing deposits. As the on campus dorms at UT are not adequate in some situations, the private dorms require a lot of cash up front and some of us are forced to pay it as we wait to hear from UT. These cash outlays include deposits to other schools as well UT and are NOT 100% refundable.
I am not saying that UT is any different in this regard; however, there are many large, prestigious schools across the country that don’t take 8 months to make an admissions decision. If it is no, just say no, if it is yes, just say yes, and if there are truly a group of deferrals, say that too so the student can move forward. Putting forth a generic, you won’t hear until March is not helpful for anyone. Difficult situation to say the least. Rant over and thanks for reading! Best of luck to all!!
Essentially it is a deferral. We will treat it as such. (Although in DD’s case I suspect it is really a rejection).
Also wonder how this will play out with the “bridge” options and how many spots are available at branch campuses by that point. Lots of ripple effects by pushing the decision date.
My school counselor emailed our admissions rep and the rep said that on Feb 1 students would recieve a notification that they were either admitted or deferred. She said they must have done it early and that if we received this notification it’s a deferral and we won’t hear by feb 1.
It is not a deferral. It is a generic message. I guess they put all applications in the same pool of regular decisions. This means that we can still hear early or late. Honestly priority and non-priority never existed since some got in early that applied late. To definitely find out about a wave and the March 1st rumors, we’d have to wait till next week Feb 1st to see.
Hey did any international applicants got that march 1 notification too? I didnt get any and applied on 27th October.Mine is still “your file is in review”

this is so confusion, is there any actual UT verification EITHER WAY that this is a deferral or that we will still hear (admitted or deferred) by 2/1?
I just called again and they said it doesn’t mean deferral if you got deferred it would say it. Also they said it means you can now hear in February instead of by February
