@lovingasiandad thank you so much!
@lovingasiandad thanks for posting the AI equations. As an OOS applicant from a school that doesn’t rank it’s tough to be sure where my DS falls, but helps clarify the process.
Can you elaborate on what “scores” are considered good/acceptance worthy? Does the range vary by school (McCombs, Moody etc)?
@lostfirstchild @tb2000 our high school quit ranking students who fell outside the top 10% several years ago. After doing this, the amount of non-auto applicants that got admitted to UT and A&M almost doubled.
So can we expect a wave this friday (26th)?
@Meant2B - Tough to answer on what scores are acceptable.
When you plugin max values in to the formula, for Business as an example :
Business – SAT Model
-2.668 + (SAT M * .002) + (SAT W * .001) + (HSR * .032) + (SAT CR * .001)
-2.668 + 800 *0.002 + 800 * 0.001 + 99 * 0.032 + 800 * 0.001 = 3.7 (AI)
But the AI in the grid chart has a max value of 4.10. So, there are other factors probably
U are absolutely correct. Texas is losing great students to other states more than ever.
@antwaine I hope so but we don’t know for sure.
@p342781 this is so sad the way they process applications. I’m really considering to withdraw my application
In addition to losing great students from Texas, they are also failing to bring in more great students to replace them because of their low OOS acceptances.
@lovingasiandad this equation is for the old sat, what about the new sat?
Whats a good AI for business?
@Spirit789 by state law texas can only admit 10 percent OOS and OOC- they dont have any control over that. it is a good thing actually-look at state schools in other states who take more OOS to get the extra tuition even tho they are funded by their own citizens tax dollars
@labegg I don’t know what you’re talking about because 150 kids get into UT from our school every year… Kids have already been admitted into mjors like Business and Neuroscience with rank 200/700 (around 30%)
@Mccombs22 That is a pretty impressive number. How many from your HS apply to UT in total and how many actually enroll? (A&M seems to get a bit more love from our school with about 125 applying and 75 being accepted/30enrolling) Clearly your school is a better performing school then ours! Although ours HS is ranked in the top 6%ish in the State. I don’t think there seems to be too much grade inflation at our school, I would say SAT/ACT scores generally seem to correspond with the GPA (At least for the smattering of students that I know the stats for and from what I can gleen from Naviance)
In 2016, according to Naviance, 90 kids from my DD’s HS applied to UT. 52 were accepted and a mere 17 enrolled. Those numbers are fairly consistent throughout the years. Most of our graduating classes are around 600 kids, give or take. I can with, relative confidence, tell you that most of those accepted at UT from our 2016 class had less then an 11% rank. The numbers on Naviance scattergrams clearly show the GPA/ACT breaking point for our school. Unless you have greater than a 32 ACT score and higher than a 4.6ish GPA you are swimming in a sea of red “x”. There are plenty of green “check marks” above the 4.9 GPA mark (which is about the break for our top 10%) with ACT scores in the 25 - 36 range.
I can tell you that a fair portion of kids from the 2016 class with ranks between 10% - 20% went to places like Alabama, Ole Miss, U of Colorado, Oklahoma, LSU, U of Michigan, Purdue, VA Tech and many private schools (my own 2016 17% kid is at Marquette, she never even applied to a Texas school). Sure there are kids enrolling at A&M, Texas Tech & Baylor (which have historically been very popular with our students) as well as SFA and UofH.
Does anyone have any knowledge how they award scholarships to BHP accepted students? I read about the Presidential scholarships, but not sure how many are actually awarded?
Do you guys think decisions will be released this upcoming Friday (1/26)?
No, people on this thread have stated multiple times that when they called the AO said they’d be released on 2/1
.
@lovingasiandad the max for the business ACT one is a 4.1, I think so maybe the charts are different.
To those thinking of withdrawing their apps- unless you know you don’t want to attend UT, don’t withdraw your app. Withdrawing your app because you are mad at the school may feel good now but you will regret acting impulsively later.
Yes, the lack of certainty in UT’s process is frustrating, but you have until May 1 to accept your other offers. UT is a very large place and there will be times you are treated like a number and feel lost in the crowd. That is just how it is for most people. You will have to make an effort when you get there to find your place and make a name for yourself. If you need a more personal touch or a lot of certainty, you might need to find another school. That is ok!
To the person who thinks UT is another high school, you may be in for a rude awakening. If you really believe that, why go?
