UT Austin (Confusion between McCombs School of Business / Business Honors Program)

Hello,

I am currently a senior at Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas....I have applied to UT Austin (Business Honors Program)

About a week and a half after submitting my application, I got accepted into the McCombs School of Business at UT.

"Congratulations! You have been admitted to your first-choice major in the McCombs School Of Business ( Unspecified Business (Freshman) ) at UT Austin. "

However, on the BHP (Business Honors Program) website, it states:

"Prospective students should be aware that being admitted to UT Austin and/or the McCombs School of Business does not guarantee admission to the Business Honors program. Notification of admission to the BHP is mailed independently of the UT admissions decision prior to April 1st. Freshmen are admitted to the BHP only for the fall semester."

"Once the applicant has completed both applications (applyTexas as well as the BHP supplement), he or she may be invited to interview. Applicants invited to interview will receive a decision within approximately 6 - 8 weeks of the date on which the interview is completed."

I am wondering - when should I expect to be called for a BHP interview?

Are BHP and McCombs related, or are they independent admissions processes?

Because one of my friends got called for a BHP interview, but still hasn't got into the McCombs school of business....

I'm confused as to what is the exact relationship between BHP/McCombs?

Its not that hard... Business Honors is the Honors of the Business school. The admissions process for Honors is longer, but they admitted you into regular Business first, then they will consider your Honors application.

The admissions process for BHP and McCombs are completely separate. Don't worry if your timeline isn't the same as your friends.

heyy fellow plano-ite here.

in addition to what others have said, there's really no exact timeline for getting an interview notice. if you're in the next round, they send your name to an alum. They do not always pick up the students they are assigned, so it may take as much as a month or so.

mccombs admits by rank, so if you're in the top 1-2%, you're automatically in - it takes less than a day for them to make that decision hah so that's probably why it was so immediate. All others go into a separate evaluative pool.

haha HEY!
McCombs reviews everyone's application on a rolling basis. so people get notified at different times. As long as you applied on time you are good.

Just got the e-mail for the interview last week. I have a phone interview thsi upcoming week. If you get an interview is there a high probability that you will get int he honors program?

I had 2 children interview for BHP, one got in, the other did not - almost identical stats. I think it depends on the interviewer.

Eastie here  it’s all rolling, don’t worry

That is really rough. I really want in. I hope that I hit it! Only time will tell.

Are BHP and McCombs related, or are they independent admissions processes?

 • Completely independent. I’m pretty sure they’re not even done in the same building. BHP handles its admissions in the BHP office in the business school. Admission to McCombs is handled by the university.

I’m confused as to what is the exact relationship between BHP/McCombs?

 • BHP is classified as a major. BHP students take honors sections of McCombs core classes (ACC, MAN, MKT, etc.)
