Hi, UT has always been my dream school for as long as I can remember. I was just wondering what y’all thought my chances of getting in were?
I attend an extremely competitive high school, I am 133/911 in my class (roughly top 14.5%) and I am in state.
ACT- 25 (30 math/science, 20 english/reading)
SAT- 1270 (670 math, 600 english)
I know my english and reading scores could be better but I am more of a math/science person and applying for math/science majors and I am aware that UT will look at my math/science sections mostly.
I am white and hispanic, female
I take lots of dual credit and AP classes
1st choice major- jackson geosciences- geology
2nd- mccombs business- unspecified business
extracurricular activities- varsity cross country, track, and golf. NHS, mu alpha theta, girl scouts, lots of community service, etc.
I also have a UT alumni in my family.
I applied in early August, and just about a week and a half ago MyStatus changed from “your application is complete” to “your application is in review”
Thank you for your time. I really hope I will hear from them soon. UT is what I have always had my heart set on. :x
Have you applied elsewhere? Does your school use Naviance and if so have you looked at the scattergrams? How many students from your particular HS, with your similar stats have been accepted?
For comparison…My DD has nearly identical stats as you with similar ECs, her ACT is 27(R32, S27, E25, M24), her class rank is 82/575 (14.3%), wGPA 4.81 and 9 APs. She has applied for psychology at UT. Based on her school’s Naviance, I estimate her chances of being accepted at UT in the 3-4% range.
Labegg- No my school does not use Naviance, and okay thank you for that. I wish her the best of luck getting in. And yes I have been accepted to UH Main Campus. I am also new to my school and nobody I know of has been accepted to UT yet. Everyone I know of is applying for other schools.
I definetely think you have a shot, your Ec are strong and geosiences is not as competeitive as others like CS or engineering… my stats are almost identical to yours so although i may sound bias, i’m keeping my hopes up! A 25 ACT and class rank of 14% is not HORIBBLE… i’ve definetely seen worse, plus you have to be optimistic… although UT is competetie it’s not Harvard and they really do seem to stress the importance of hollistic review. Stay hopeful, and please let me know your results.
