UT Austin Honors 2019 CNS - Turing and Deans

oh good job man! @sushirolla

im still waiting for both

What are the average stats for Turing ?

@4poolsoimba‌ what are your stats ?

@PCMguy The average SAT was a CR+M 1440 in 2005

And by the way, if you take CS honors classes and do well, you can apply to Turing. I’m going to try out that route.

@DogShelter‌
Yeah, I read about it. I’m just waiting for the honors decision.
I’ll probably follow you. fist bump

@PCMguy
I’m kind of new to this forum so not sure if this is enough but here are my stats
Rank: 4/407
GPA: 106.73/100 (Weighted, not sure what it is on a 4.0 scale since my school doesn’t use it)
SAT: 800 Reading, 770 Math, 760 Writing
SAT II: 800 Math II, 750 Chemistry

@4poolsoimba those are some stats. Congrats.
Did you get into Turing/Deans?

@DVA6102‌ EXACT same problem here. transferred from San Diego to TX after freshman year and GPA’s didn’t transfer over properly, hence dropping my rank like crazy!

@PCMguy Thanks. I made it into Turing. Haven’t heard anything from Deans.

@4poolsoimba‌ Awesome, Congrats. I’m still waiting to hear form them. Probably will be rejected with a 32 ACT!

Also @4poolsoimba‌ how were you notified?

@PCMguy‌ I’m sure that you still have a chance with a 32 ACT. I got notified through snail mail. Didn’t receive anything through e-mail or mystatus.

Snail mail to India. Hmm… Probably a hundred years…

Hello everybody. I attended an information session for UT in my area and I, wanting to get in as badly as everyone else, asked specifically about admission to Turing. The woman I talked to told me that, because they are having trouble getting all of the computer science faculty together, acceptances are coming out erratically. She said that 2 waves of admission letters have gone out with 2 left to go and that the timing of when you receive your letter has basically nothing to do with how qualified the faculty thinks you are. Apparently the next wave will be sent out in about a week and a half and the last wave will be in March (yes, past the time that they said the letters would stop coming out). I hope this information helps. I know my nerves calmed way down when I heard about this.

tl;dr - The timing of Turing acceptances has nothing to do with weather you are good enough or not and only about half of the people who will get in have gotten letters so far.

@eliotdexter, thanks, that’s good to know. Does that apply just to Turing or also to CS admission decisions generally?

@eliotdexter‌ Thanks for the info, although it´s a bit unnerving. I (as an out of state student) was accepted to CS and the school in general about one week ago and accepted to Plan II yesterday. Last thing I´m waiting on is Turing, which is what I cared the most about. Can´t wait for this decision haha.

@Austinwannabe I didn’t ask specifically about whether it applies to both, but given that they are having a problem with their honors admissions I’d say they’re probably having trouble with their regular admissions as well. The guy ranked 8/503 at my school hasn’t received word on his admission to CS yet, so I wouldn’t worry too much just yet.

@InvisibleInc Yeah I feel the same way lol, just the waiting is killing me :neutral_face:. At the very least this info gave me hope that they haven’t thought I’m under qualified and are waiting to see if they should let me in. And I got my acceptance to CS a week after I submitted my app, so again the timing on these things is petty random.

I talked to the director of CNS honors admissions and she said they will try to get all the Deans Scholar notifications done by this week. She said call them back if nothing is done by that time.

so hopefully now

hey guys has this happened to anyone yet?

on the mystatus page it used to say Natural science honors app “we’re reviewing …”
It said this since 9/28.

All of a sudden today it disappeared,…I’m not sure if its a glitch but has this happened before?

[but the eng honors program that i had applied says the samething(under review)…this hasnt disappeared nor have i got admitted to engineering]–[i was admitted to the CS dept at CNS in december time]

Thanks

@accepted0018, same thing here re: natural science honors. I just noticed that a few minutes ago. Who knows whether it means anything or not.
