UT Austin (McCombs) vs. Mich (Ross)

Hello,

I have recently found out that I have received admission into the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin and the Ross School of Business at Michigan. However, I did not receive admission into the honors program (BHP) at UT Austin. I’m having a hard time deciding on what school to choose and was hoping if any of you could give me some feedback on the two schools. I am a TX resident so the price of UT Austin is half of Michigan. At the same time, I love Michigan and it has the better school but the OOS tuition is turning me away. My family is neither nor poor so I was wondering if the double price tag of Ross is truly worth it in the long run.

Thanks,
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Congrats on having two wonderful choices. Ross is a great school, but I absolutely don’t think it is worth twice the price of McCombs. Plus if you think you may want to stay in TX after college then there would be advantages to McCombs in terms of having a strong alumni network in the state.

I know people who went to UM and UT and they all loved their respective schools.

Not that any rating should be a deciding factor, but just to show how close the two schools are the USNWR undergraduate busienss school ranking has Ross #4 and McCombs #6 – that is certainly not a material difference.

If you really want to get into BHP, you could give it a shot at the end of freshman year at UT.
