Instagram stories picked questions that were really not that great- GPA/SAT-ACT, ECs, Essay #of words, if not AA, will I still get in… Felt like it was a waste of time…
Well, if history repeats itself AND the latest tweet from ut23 is a hint, there may be a small wave tomorrow. Good luck everyone! My daughter is calm, I am not. The more I read, the more I waffle on confidence. Regardless of public or private, competitive, not competitive, a lot of these kids vying for spots have worked very hard!!! I certainly could not be a student nowadays.
Would those include OOS students or only Texas students?
Some out of states and some not auto admits were admitted in all rounds last year, I believe.
D was admitted last night to Plan II and McCombs. Now waiting on BHP (fingers crossed). Good luck to all! Have faith…
@kellikil Was your daughter auto-admit?
Can anyone please help me with the extracuricullars? I have done a lot of volunteering, but I am alos a memebe in many volunteering organizations, and I occupy different positions, so I don’t think these will fit in the volunteering service part. What do I do?

Thank you fatherof2boys! You give us hope! one correction - our son not in private school - Top magnet/charter school in the country - do want to reveal more!
We have only one kid but we have many friends who are considering sending their middle kids to top magnet/ charter/ college prep- public school. After looking at the numbers, would suggest to them not to send to tip-super competitive magnet/charter/college prep -public school - because if they do not make it in the Top 2% - it becomes really difficult to get in to UT Austin! Also, currently, these kids are toppers (easily in Top 2%) in the public schools - in fact few of them are in advanced programs too!
Why go through so much headache and anxiety and buyer remorse --just send your kids to regular high school in TX and make sure he is in Top 6% and also, this will free up time for pursuing tons of ECs…and might be easier to get in to top programs in UT Austin! That will be my advice going forward to other people whose kids are very bright and want to go to UT Austin- it is too much pressure for the kids and the parents too!
meant to say Do NOT want to reveal more!!!
^ Parents should only follow your advice if all they care about is their student getting into UT rather than getting a great education in high school and preparation for college success.
Maybe this discussion over private/charter/public, and which is better, should be it’s own thread in general???
Any non-auto admit heard from UT? The above discussion is mute point as nothing can be done for our kids who are awaiting the admission update. Better to stay focused on the discussion topic. Many of us are here for admission related discussions only. Thank you and wishing everyone the very best.
Hi itisgettingreal - want to share a scenario:
Let us say for argument,we know somebody who has a very good (Top 5%) student in a good public middle school and they get in to one of these top magnet/charter/college prep public high school - where they get very good education (APs, Comp science, etc. etc.) but super-competitive. If that student cannot make it in the Top 6% – say he is around 20-25% of the class and wants to do Comp science or management. in TX (UT)…There is a good chance that he may not even make it to Texas A&M! That will affect the type of internship or placement opportunities during/after college—May potentially affect that person’s career arc!
Yes, we all know that if the student works extra hard and does a good job of networking --it is possible to reach the same level…But the path is harder - it is kind of similar to going to Ivy league but not the same level but similar advantages. Going to better ranked colleges give students better opportunities starting out and after that it is up to the individual…
If some parent asks me, I would definitely tell them what could happen if they send their kids to top charter/magnet school …the idea is to make sure parents make informed decisions! Right now, many parents (including us) did not understand all the ramifications of Texas 6% rule when we were in middle-school !!
If the parent wants to still choose charter/magnet high school - yes, at least they would have made the decisions with all facts considered.
???
Have any non-auto admit heard from UT Plan ii yet?
Yes, my child was accepted-I am very surprised!
Based on last year, can we expect to hear back in December if we’re priority?
@grlgotexas Congratulations! Nice surprises are the best kind!!
@grlgotexas Congratulations to your daughter! Did she only hear from Plan II, or did she have another major she heard from too? Also, when did she hear, last Friday?
