UT Austin or Northeastern?

I'm majoring in economics at both schools, and I'm having a really hard time deciding between them. I got a full ride at UT, and 10K/year at Northeastern, so the money situation favors UT. Which should I choose?

Well I dislike Boston so I'd say UT.

Down here UT definitely has a better reputation. I don't know what the rest of the country thinks, but I know in the Boston area Northeastern is looked down upon as inferior to many schools (but then again I assume UT would be as well).

UT has a strong Economics department. It would be a different atmosphere than that at Northeastern--larger classes and less contact with professors would be the norm. But UT also has a strong alumni network as well as the resources to offer the most well-rounded course offerings in the country.

Especially as Northeastern would set you back $40k a year from what it looks like, a full ride at Texas would be a great choice financially.

I'd say go with UT unless Boston is especially dear to you or if Northeastern has some draw that UT lacks (intimacy most likely).

That question isn't even a question. UT is consider one of the original public Ivies and a full ride to a school as good as UCLA (overrated) is something too good to pass up.

This would actually be a question if Northeastern gave you a full ride too.

UT would be a better deal.

Undergrad economics at UT tends to be a fall back major however and isn't that great- it's mostly frat boys who couldn't get into the business school and flunk outs from engineering/computer science.

This perhaps makes it easier to graduate with honors for those who are dedicated from freshman year up. Grading however is harder than the business school (half the people don't make A's in economics major courses as they "hand out" in business major courses.)

UT Austin is so much better than Northeastern. I know this seemed like a biased response considering that this is the official UT college thread but there really is no comparison in terms of resources, networking, setting, and reputation nationally

Where do you want to live? In the northeast, Texas schools mean nothing. I suspect in Texas, NE means nothing.

Well, I'm from Washington, Seattle actually, and I most likely wouldn't want to stay in Texas my whole life. But either way, its looking like Texas is the best choice at this point

I know nothing about the respective economics programs, but I personally think that Northeastern has a better setting than UT. True, UT is in Austin, which is an amazing city, I just love Boston a lot more. However, from what people have said, UT sounds like your best bet. They gave you more money, their program sounds better and Austin is not a bad city. Good luck on your decision!

In the northeast, Texas schools mean nothing? The University of Texas is not just any "Texas school"
Living in Cleveland, I've been shocked at how much of a positive response I have received as I told people I’m going to UT. It’s a great school. The people that don’t know that are just misinformed.
Boston weather and Seattle weather... I mean there is more snow in Boston (I think) but either way, the weather in Austin totally topples both. I mean you won’t have that day when you're trying to get to class a few blocks away through a foot of snow. You really don’t want that, I’m sure.

Have you visited both/either school? Looked at the pros and cons of things like travel? Is one an easier/cheaper flight away? Have any type of family closer to one than the other?
