UT Austin or UC Berkeley

Hi,

I'm a freshman at Berkeley City College, and I am looking to attend CC for 2 years and transferring to one of these schools. I was accepted to my first choice, Morehouse College, but the person picking up the tab (grandmother) ultimately destroyed the dream of attending.

I plan to study Business/Econ. I've been born and raised here in the Bay Area, but I'm tired of being here. Would it be dumb of me to leave California to go to Texas? Which school would be better for me in the long run? If I was to go to Texas, I would move there for 2015 school year so that I could get the in-state tuition at UT (I have 500+ relatives in Texas. 90% in Houston). Which school will land me a job outside of its area (which is more reputable)?

If it takes me staying in the Bay for 4 more years, I'll do it if its for my benefit.

What should I do?

You want to read about Texas residency carefully to see how easy or difficult acquiring it will be in your situation: <a href=“College For All Texans: Residency Information”>College For All Texans: Residency Information;

Also, check how the in-state financial aid will be in each state by running the net price calculators at the various state universities in each state. California public universities tend to be relatively good at in-state financial aid. Expect out-of-state financial aid to be poor at public universities just about everywhere.
