So here's the situation, I'm going to do Austin Community College in the hopes of transferring into UT Austin. I'm out of state and I'm wondering what my chances are for out of state transfers. I want to transfer into Cockrell for mechanical engineering and I'm pretty sure I'll have taken linear algebra by the time I'm done with my first year of ACC (30 hrs total). So hypothetically, if I get a 4.0 with all their recommended transfer courses but am still considered out of state, what're my chances of getting into Cockrell?

I am entering UT COLA this spring as a transfer from ACC. I have some friends in your situation - out-of-state and attending UT - and they got accepted for transfer from ACC with 3.4+ last fall. A couple were engineering majors who said they had 3.6+. So basically, I think you have better odds than I had applying to COLA with a 3.6, and I got in.

Thanks for the reply man were they out of state people who attended ACC and were still considered out of state when they applied to UT?

My friends were paying out of state tuition at ACC. I don’t think the resident/out-of-state difference is as important for transfers. The freshman admits have a limit on the percentage of OOS. I don’t think they have the same OOS limit for transfers.

I actually called admissions about this the other day. I was concerned since I’m a FL resident. They said it does not matter for transfer admissions purposes whether in state or OOS, except with regards to the diff. in tuition.

Dayum, thanks guys!
