I am currently a sophomore enrolled at UT Dallas and looking to transfer to UT.
UTD has a grade replacement policy that allows students to replace a previous grade by repeating the course.
I have repeated a few courses in order to improve my GPA. I expect to be at a 3.68 by the end of the fall semester.
However, UT does not offer the grade replacement option. I was wondering how my GPA and credits would be considered in the admissions process. Would my final GPA be lower due to the repeated courses? I am applying for Spring 2016.
If UTD has allowed you to retake those courses for a higher grade, then I assume that the new grade overrides the old grade on your transcript, in which case, UT would not even see your old grade. If that is not the case, then they probably average the two grades together. Call UT just to make sure. Also, what major are you applying for? I’m also applying for the Spring of 2016 for Economics.
I’m applying for neuroscience.
I called the admissions office today and it turns out UT calculates transfer GPA by dividing total grade points achieved over total hours attempted. All classes, whether passed, failed, or repeated, are taken into account. Unfortunately, that’s bad news for me due to my repeated courses. Perhaps I’ll have a better chance applying for Fall 2016. Good luck with your application!
Hey @cs3625 I’m currently a Freshman Finance major at UTD, thinking about transferring somewhere, not to sure though. Just wanted to ask and see have you heard from UT back yet about your admission?
