My son is trying to choose between film school at Emerson and Loyola Marymount. Can anyone tell us what the film students at LMU are like? Are they pretty much a cross-section of the LMU student population? Or do they tend more to the hipster scene, like Emerson students?
I applied to both of these schools as well as a screenwriting major. From what I’ve gathered, I’d say as far as curriculum goes Emerson is the better choice. As far as resources and opportunities, I’d say Loyola Marymount. It depends on which is more important to him.
Interesting. Thanks. Have you met any films students at LMU? Do you have any sense what they’re like?
My daughter is a Film School double major at LMU. Speaking for her she says that the students from any school. They are a mixed bag. Some very serious and others just skating by. With LMU there is a high level of entitlement expressed by some of the students (Silver spoons) so just be prepared.
If you are serious about the craft it is recognized by the school and you get great opportunities.
As far as Emerson versus LMU that is a no brainer in regards to Film. LMU is in LA, the industry is in LA, industry professionals come to the campus regularly, staff know people in the industry and LMU has an intern program that will get your student in the industry. Emerson while a great school, cannot offer any thing close to that.
Thanks, @sleepyweasel. Any thoughts about NYU and how it compares to LMU?
Curious where you ended up as May 1 approaches, and how you decided between LMU, Emerson, NYU. Three great opportunities for film school, with distinct differences in style.
