UT Austin vs. SMU

Got rejected from BHP (so many people applied 802?!?!) but I still got the regular business program which is hard in itself to get into.

However, I got into SMU Business School with business scholars, the honors program, and 25k in financial aid?

Right now I'm leading towards UT because I can reapply to BHP for next year, but I just wanted to hear your opinions.

Anyone have any suggestions?

These schools are VERY different - I would say the only two things they have in common are 1) Texas and 2) highly ranked business schools. SMU (I live 5 minutes away) has a very elitist attitude about everything, and it isn't as highly regarded as UT. Austin is a LOT more fun and appropriate for a college student and I'm going to UT in the fall. You won't have trouble finding a job after either school - good luck!

I applied to SMU, received similar stuff to what you did...

I think very highly of SMU, and would have easily gone there if i hadn't been accepted to my first choice...

quite frankly i think SMU has the resources and desire to provide you with everything you could really want (internships, etc.) because of their connections with Dallas. I would strongly consider SMU

Lol I never thought this decision would be so hard. I decided though if I get close to a full ride to UT I'm going there. If not....wow.

I also live near SMU. I would not recommend it unless you are sure you are going to spend the rest of your life in Dallas. The SMU network in Dallas is strong. Otherwise, UT is better all the way around. Except for a few strong programs (like the arts), SMU is a preppy extension of the large, affluent school district surrounding it.

Amen, MomofWildChild!
Those HP folk think they are so great but I just want to spit on them.

Um Kcirsch, she didn't say "arrogant". She said "affluent".

Yes, I know. :)
