UT Austin vs UH?

I am currently a senior in high school who can’t decide where to attend college for the next 4 years. Both schools have their pros and cons, but my main goal is to be happy with where I go. You only get to be an undergraduate student once. I plan on becoming a pharmacist and have been preparing to take my Pharmacy Technician test. Keep in mind it is not really required to have a bachelor’s degree for pharmacy school, just mostly prereqs for the pharmacy school, volunteer experience, etc.

UT:
I have loved UT ever since I was a kid. It’s my dream Texas school. I love the community-feel of the campus and the city of Austin itself (I’m from Houston) and really can’t see myself at any other university. UT has a better reputation than UH, and a UT degree holds more power than a UH degree. I received about $26k in aid for the 2018-2019 school year, which includes loans and some grants/awards. Overall I believe I would pay about 15-16k a year, but my mom would help a little with the money. I would probably have to take out some loans and be in debt by the end of my studies, but not many students leave college debt-free anyways. I did not receive my first major, and as a result I am currently in the College of Liberal Arts as undeclared. I thought it was the end of the world not being in the College of Natural Science, but I have come to see that its really not a terrible thing. I am currently looking at the Health and Society major. Having a liberal arts degree could make me stand out. Here I would have a lot of good opportunities for research and internships. If I went to UT my plan would be - 2 years of undergrad taking prereqs for UH pharm school, PCAT and then apply during my sophomore year. UT is my #1 choice; my mother and I are set on this college! I don’t believe I would enjoy my life at UH as much. After all, college is about figuring yourself out! The eyes of Texas are upon me!

UH:
Not my ideal school, but best financially. I received about $13k total for the entire year, with it including $7000 in scholarships. Overall I would only have to pay around $5000 a year. I would have to commute about 40 minutes to and from everyday and live with my parents. My cousin, who recently graduated, says that the professors are not the best. My father refuses to let me go anywhere else, but I refuse to let a MAN decide my college for me! I received my major (biology) here as well. My plan here would be the same as UT - 2 years of prereqs for UH pharm school, PCAT, then apply during my sophomore year. It is relatively close to the Texas Medical Center so I would have lots of opportunities for internships. But I have tried picturing myself enjoying UH and I just can’t see it :frowning:

To sum everything up, go to UT and be happy but in debt, or go to UH and be sad but not in debt? Hook 'em or Go Coogs?
College is a long journey, and I want to make sure that I enjoy it rather than loathe it.

If you’re only going there for 2 years, then apply for pharmacy school in Houston, there’s no sense in accumulating extra debt to go to UT. You’d basically be accumulating debt for zero benefit. You might as well be throwing those dollar bills in the fireplace. I think you’re much better off staying in Houston…sorry, it’s a GUY saying this  College is really what you make of it, and with the right attitude you could be happy anywhere. You should be a Cougar.
