hello,

I applied to the University of Texas at Austin and their automatic acceptance rate is 7%. Currently I am top 8% of my graduating class, and I was curious to know what I could do to improve my chances of getting accepted? My SAT score is not very good, but I am in many extracurricular activities and one leadership role. I take all AP and IB classes as well. What can I do to impress them? Thank you!

At least do you think I have the possibility of getting accepted?

Since you have the most rigorous schedule relative to your school (taking all APs offered) and in the top 10%, I would say that you have a good shot at UT. And your ECs seem to be intact as well.

As it is too late to take anymore standardized testing, the only thing that you can work on are your essays (make sure that they are perfection). The essays can make you stand out. Don’t write about anything too cliche. Remember to proofread the essays and you should probably have a teacher or somebody read it and give you tips.

I’m applying to UT too!! Gook luck to you!

Hi! I currently go to UT Austin, though it was through automatic admission. I was, however, also accepted into an Ivy League school. I would say that you shouldn’t be doing things just to impress colleges, because college admissions people can spot those applicants out in a second. Make sure that your academic resume and essays reflect what your passions are and how you used your 4 years of high school to pursue or explore your interests. Colleges will almost always chose a student with lower grades who has a clear passion expressed via their choice of extracurriculars and their essay topics than a 4.0 student who did nothing outside of school.
