My friend is applying to Natural Sciences at UT Austin and was wondering what his chances are so I wanted to help him out. Here are his stats:

GPA: 97.988
Rank: 58/526, Top 11%
SAT: 2030, M-640 CR-660 W-730
All Pre-AP and AP classes
AP Classes: 7 Total, made a 5 on AP Chem
~50-70 hours of community service; various places
Marching and concert band freshman and sophomore years
NHS junior and senior years
Recommendation Letters from AP Chemistry teacher and others

What are his chances for Chemistry or Computer Science in Natural Sciences? Would having a 5 on the AP Chemistry test help with acceptance?
Thanks

This. If he is out-of-state, then he pretty much has a tiny chance. There are SO many kids from Texas who get in just because of the Top 8% rule.

Depends on the school he is graduating from. If is similar to Westlake High (More or less anything in the top 100 HS in the nation) then he has about a 50% shot otherwise not so much.

yeah i live in texas. alot of people DO get in because of the top 8% rule, which is really stupid. but this includes kids from **** schools where a 3.0 is valedictorian. this does not mean that they can afford UT or can make it there. UT LOVES sat scores because they can actually et an accurate look at applicants rather than admitting a bunch of dumb****s from hicktown. if you dont get in then transfer, which is really easy because theres a saying at UT. “look to your left, now look to your right, theres a 90% chance that you or the person sitting next to you will not be here by the end of the year.” most undergrad classes are weeder classes to fail out idiots from crap schools so that high achieving kids like you can get in through transfer. If you don’t get in just transfer but i think you will get in especially if you can pay out of state. texas has quotas for funding too.
