Hi I am going into a Cap program next year at UTSA. I wanted to know the requirements for CAP students to get into UT Austin Engineering programs(petroleum, chemical, mechanical, civil) sophomore year. Here are my questions.
1. Is there classes that you have to take or that really help you to get into the engineering colleges?
2. What GPA do you have to get in CAP in order to get into engineering colleges?
3. Is it really hard to get into engineering colleges by doing CAP?

UT Austin Cockrell School of Engineering recommended courses
Note: admission to Engineering requires completion of MAT 1214 or 1193. Applicants
who complete CHE 1103 or 1143, MAT 1224, MAT 2214, PHY 1903, and/or
PHY 1923 are more competitive.
Mathematics – MAT 1214 (or 1193), 1224, & 2214.
Science & Technology – PHY 1903+1923+1911+1931 for all majors; CHE 1103 or
1143 for all majors except Electrical Engineering.
Visual & Performing Arts – for Architectural Engineering: choose one from
ARC 1413, 2413, or 2423.
Social Science – choose one from A

To CAP you only need a 3.2 but that gets you into the College of liberal arts, natural sciences, and undergraduate studies. To be more competitive you should aim for as close to 4.0 as possible… a 3.7 would probably be minimum I would say. It’s not hard at UTSA.

UT’s engineering school is one of the hardest to get in but totally possible. If all else fails and you don’t get that high of a GPA, you can always try to do an internal transfer once you’re at UT.
