Chief Pablo here.
OK I think we can all agree that the huge wave of CAP results were a big shock. Is it possible that UT could’ve made a mistake? Yes I know I sound whiny but I find it hard to believe that UT did not take a single person from my school who was not automatic. I live in the central Texas area and each year around 70 people (if not more) from my school get in and they are not automatic. My graduating class is about 650 students. Is it possible UT could’ve made a mistake? I know other users on CC had excellent applications and were rejected. Even people who are top 6% got rejected…so something fishy is definitely going on here.
Chief Pablo out.
Go into the CAP program website. It lists the requirements you must meet at every non Austin UT school in the UT network.
It has a class rank and minimum act and sat level for each. Plus you have to have the algebra and math component completed.
There are a lot of people who are trying to get into UT Austin via this guaranteed transfer program, it is a really popular.
Check your statistics again and consider apply rd to some of the other ut schools.
But only one third who are selected for CAP end up at ut Austin. Either not prepared for school or they end up being happy at the school they already attended.

Chief Pablo,
There was definitely something wrong with last night’s CAP releases. Our valedictorian was capped, got all her stuff in on time, amazing scores, etc. I read of two more top 6% kids, even another valedictorian, all at in state schools that should have received admission. For some reason the ones who did not have their applications in by priority deadline, were capped. UT will be getting lot of angry phone calls on Monday morning. I can’t believe they haven’t sent out an email apologizing for the mistake yet. Now I don’t know if some kids outside of the top in state 6% were capped that weren’t supposed to be but it certainly seems like a possibility.
Thanks @Oldhorn. Sorry to hear about this from your standpoint. I’m really praying UT can fix this. Let’s prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
@Oldhorn, I had heard of UT denying admission to valedictorian’s before when they came from a very small class. If they were #1 out of 10, then they would not be in the top 6%. I know they were considering passing legislation that guaranteed that valedictorians would be admitted without class size being considered but I’m not sure if it was passed. Could this be your situation?
It was just a glitch! My daughter is AA and was admitted to nursing two weeks ago. When I said “our” valedictorian, I meant the one at our school although she is a dear friend. She was actually accepted into McCombs and it was updated in her mystatus. No email or apology, just there in mystatus 24 hrs after being accidentally capped.
I’m glad to hear it about both your daughter and her friend. You would think they would let you know that an error had happened. What happens if you never went back to look.
A bunch of our local high school seniors were switched from CAP to admitted yesterday. We heard someone in admissions had entered in the scores incorrectly. They were given 1s instead of 6s? Is anyone else hearing this? If so, wow.
I also heard this. Specifically that PAIs were entered 1s for 6s. But this is just through the grapevine from some kids my daughter knows casually, nothing super verifiable.
I have heard about this as well on different forums. People have called admissions and it has not been confirmed by them. One area of the state has been mentioned specifically and that was Highland Park.
My high school junior son from the Austin area said he heard that there were students who were admitted but should not have been! They should have been offered CAP but were given full admission. He thought their admission would be revoked to allow room for those who were offered CAP but should have been admitted.
This is so scandalous! I find it odd that there have been no PR releases about this. Obviously it looks really bad. Like way worse then when Steve Harvey announced the wrong award winner LOL. This could be affecting a lot of students.
PAIs - “Pacific Antarctic Ice Sheets”… for those that don’t know.
Has anyone received full admission (to their first or second choice major) and were not automatic?
Do you mean of those who were previously CAP’d?
By the way, Reddit is all over this. So I would suggest their megathread on the unCAPing.
