I don’t want any biased answers. Please tell me honestly. I’m going to major in education, as I want to be a third grade teacher someday. I got capped at UT Austin, but since UTSA’s CAP is already full and since I have a fee waiver I’ve thought about applying to UTSA (without CAP), taking transferable courses like CAP and transferring after a year. My other option is to go to Texas State, but I’ve heard so many negative things about it’s reputation like how it’s a huge party school and it’s not as good as UT and A&M. So what do you suggest I do?
Well trying to transfer without cap to UT will be hard and there is no guarantee. Texas State isn’t s bad school but it does have a reputation. If I were in your shoes I’d do CAP
If you really want to go to UT Austin, I’d go the Cap route. Just go to another school the Cap program has to offer. I’m going to UT Arlington, and to be honest, it’s not my top choice, bit at least I’ll still get to go my dream school. As for Texas State, I was considering going there ad well (prior to finding out I got offered CAP), anf my advice about it being a party school, think about it like this all schools are going to have parties but it’s up to you if you go or not.
I’m assuming another possibility is get your basics at Texas State & then apply to transfer to UT. If you could keep your GPA at 3.5+ it could be a real possibility.
Honestly , despite having a reputation as a party school. Texas States does have one of the worlds’ best teacher schools.
Why don’t you visit both campus and make a decision then? If you REALLY want to go to UT, take the CAP.
