I’m a rookie so take me with a grain of salt. But I’ve searched the Cockrell boards from last year and it was a brutal admissions round. I know someone who was top 11% and ACT 32 AND an engineering internship at a prestigious huge aerospace defense firm who did not get admitted.
Also messaged with another Dad whose kid was a valedictorian and an ACT > 31-32 I believe and she didn’t get admitted either!!
Seems like a crazy crapshoot! Definitely give it a go with the rest of them but make sure there are some safeties in there.
UT Austin fills about 3/4 of the class with automatic admits with top 7% class rank. Even then, this does not assure admission to an engineering major. So chances for admission with a class rank outside the top 10% are probably quite small.
