Hey guys!
I got accepted to UT Dallas for a computer science major with an AES Distinction level scholarship.
I want to know if it’ll be a good fit for me.
I’m an international student and have lived in the US for three years.
Currently, I’m studying in an american curriculum high school in the middle east and I don’t know if I want to be a computer scientist or a doctor (Most likely a doctor, though).
But I took a computer science major since I could (and most probably will) apply to medical school and have a computer science job as my backup if I don’t get accepted to any medical schools.
I want to know if this is a good idea and if it’ll work out at UT Dallas.
Will I be able to maintain a high GPA with taking comp sci. courses and finishing the medical school required courses?
Do medical schools care about what major I take? What are my chances of getting into a good medical school if I graduate from this university? Is UT Dallas compatible for my ‘agenda’?
Sorry for asking so many questions. I just want to make the right decision.
Thank You
First, I have heard that medical schools do not care what your major is as long as you do well on the MCAT, have taken the prereqs and do have a high GPA. I also have been told that UTD has a high admittance rate to medical schools and do seem to have good advising thru HPAC. I don’t know how easy it is to keep a high enough GPA in CS. It probably depends on what your strengths are - how good are you in math. Based on that, I would contact HPAC about your plan and see what they say.
Bimmerx53 just wrote about the premed at UTD. You should give it a read.
Thanks @GTAustin
Am I at a disadvantage since I’m an International student? I’ve heard that admission for international students to medical school is impossible
Anyone?
