UT Dallas push for Tier one

This is fantastic - leads you to lots of links as to how UTD President and his team are striving really hard to attain Tier 1 University status. Kudos to the President Dr. Daniel

Don’t UTD’s finances get sucked up trying to recruit high achieving freshman (paying them to attend instead of the student paying to attend?). If this continues, won’t they only achieve one of the finances or good student categories?

Kudos of course. But every major college president is doing this and trying to foster industry support. The advantage that UTD has is the business environment in Dallas and upward mobility of the school. If the local industry gets involved, the school will flourish. Only time will tell.

UT Dallas is a JOKE! Not to mention it is a butt ugly school. I graduated from Cal Poly, a REAL engineering school. Check out our rankings vs lowly UTD!

Obviously, Cal Poly didn’t teach you to be humble or how to be optimistic about future. UT Dallas started accepting UG only in 2000. and look at the progress they have made in rankings, funding etc. We are not comparing Cal Poly with UTD. UTD is not a joke.

Very interesting post. I looked up cal poly. Please forgive me, although I graduated high school in California I wasn’t very familiar with cal poly. I knew it wasn’t Cal Tech, but wasn’t sure which of the 23 campuses of the CSU system it was. I found out that “cal poly” most likely refers to California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo, not to be confused with Cal Poly Pomona. I have to admit being impressed that cal poly is considered by one ranking to be the 9th best college in California, particularly noteworthy for a school that doesn’t offer doctorate degrees. Even so, I had to wonder what would cause such a rude post. It made me wonder if all recent transplants from California are equally as dismissive of Texan institutiions. After giving it some thought I concluded that this was not the case. In my time at UTD, I met numerous faculty from Stanford, Cal Tech, Berkeley & UCLA. Most of them were very classy and polite individuals. Today I work with other colleagues from these four institutions who, I’m certain, would take exception to this gentleman’s assertions.

As you may know, the DFW metroplex is one of the country’s most dynamic areas for job creation. It is an industrially diverse, innovative and hard-working hub. People are relocating here from all over the world. I currently work for one of the many highly respected employers in Dallas and I know firsthand that job openings in DFW receive applications from graduates of “top tier” universities from every state. Even in this competitive environment, UT Dallas students thrive. They are very smart, industrious and engaged. Equally important, they often gain valuable work experience with local employers during summer internships, through research partnerships and sometimes by working part-time. The UT Dallas students that I have hired directly or recommended for hire have been impressive. They definitely don’t take a backseat to cal poly grads with employers in DFW. I’m not sure what would have caused his post, but I will keep his unnecessarily arrogant attitude in mind next time a resume comes across my desk from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In fact, I may share his post with managers of other local employers.

@DalTexEdge, your statement “will keep his unnecessarily arrogant attitude in mind next time a resume comes across my desk from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo” is pretty silly.

You’re casting all Cal Poly people in a bad light just due to the bad act of one person.

We don’t know if this guy actually went to to Cal Poly. He created this account recently and only has 2 posts that are similar. He’s probably just a ■■■■■ and possibly picked Cal Poly and/or UTD randomly.
