UT Electrical Engineering

How tough is this program at UT? What are the pre requisite courses needed to register during the first semester? How can my child know about the teachers - tough/v.tough/v.v.tough/easy... etc.? Thanks.

How difficult is it to maintain a GPA of 3.5> ? How about internships/research/summer jobs etc.?

i’ve heard that EE is relatively one of the toughest engineering majors at UT (perhaps the second or the third toughest). for teachers, you can use pickaprof.com to see their ratings and how well they grade but it will cost you money per month to use it. the recommended courses for the first semester is Intro to EE, Into to Computing, Differential and Integral Calculus, Rhetoric and Writing, and a Approved fine arts/humanities or social science elective ( [UT ECE | 2006-2008 Electrical Engineering Curriculum](http://www.ece.utexas.edu/undergrad/ee06-08.html) )

Are there basic science classes required for EE majors (like bio, chem, or somthing)? Maybe like freshmen core classes that every major takes?

There may still be a chance I go the medicine route so I don’t want to get too behind if I decide to switch majors…

in the second semester of freshman year, you’ll have to a physics class + lab

What about bio or chem? or would you have to take those as electives?

not really, EE is pretty much physics and more physics. but looking at the recommended courses for your first semester, you probably have the time to take a bio or chem class if you not take the writing or the social science class.

Thanks henryj223!

Is the course intro to computing a must even if one is not majoring in computer science but majoring only in EE?

Yea I think it’s required because even for EE u need to know basic programming
