UT Housing no longer offering housing contracts...transfers beware...

Hey guys keep in mind I made this post a year ago. I don’t know anything about the housing situation today or whether there are dorms still available on campus. Just letting new people know before anyone starts to panic.

TMT, did you end up getting a supplemental contract by the end of summer?

By the end of the summer I had already signed with Dobie, but someone from UT housing called me and asked if I was still interested in living on campus in a supplemental room. I didn’t accept because I already had somewhere to live and I prefer 1 roommate over 3, so that space went to someone else.

Do you remember exactly when they called you? I applied April 1st… and still hoping for ANY kind of housing on campus… :(

Hmmm… well I don’t know the exact date but on July 13th of last year I signed my lease for Dobie and I remember it was a few weeks after that when I got the call. I remember being really surprised because it was almost time for me to move in Dobie - so it had to have atleast been in August. I didn’t think UT would have space, let alone call me on my cell phone and ask if I wanted it. Also, I had applied for housing January 2009, so I don’t know if April is too late or not. Have you tried calling?

Yeah, and I’m looking into Dobie, too, but if I get into on campus housing, I would drop Dobie… But I know that dobie makes you pay the 450 lease + rent for june july and aug… UGH! Decisions, decisions…

How is Dobie, btw? Is it social? do everyone get to know each other on the floor and stuff like that? Is the food and accommodations nice?

thaisteak, if you are social, you will have NO problem meeting people living in a dorm. Just say hi to whomever you meet on your floor and go from there. Dobie also tends to have a lot of parties on the weekends, you should check those out in order to meet people.

If I may ask, do you live at Dobie MagicMan522?

thaisteak, I replied to your PM

Also - i’ve made several posts about Dobie in recent threads that may help answer any other questions about my experience.

thaisteak-please call our office to see if you can get a supplemental contract–512-471-3136

So it seems like transfers this year will not be offered any more regular contracts I’m assuming. Only supplemental if possible? TMT90 applied early January last year (as did I did this year) and never received one. Looking at other housing options would probably be best now…

Many people in supplemental housing get moved into a regular room pretty quickly.

ah, sorry for late reply, i browse these forums rather infrequently. anyway, i believe i applied in like april. I didnt realize that you were supposed to apply as soon as you turn in your admission application, and i ended up applying the day i found out i was accepted.

Edit: speaking of supplemental housing though, I just signed up for resnet, and i was wondering if i’ll have access to my resnet connection in supplemental housing. i ask this because from what i read, it sounds like you can only access your internet connection from a single port they assign you in your dorm room. do supplementals have these ports as well?

Resnet also covers your wireless access, which is across the entire campus.

Yes, supplementals have ResNet ports, Cable TV and microfridges.

How did you sign up for resnet?

via my application status page

Jeptha, did you get a housing contract yet?

i got the contract the second i accepted their offer of supplemental housing over the phone.

How did you get one before I did?! I applied earlier than you :frowning: BOOO… Oh well. I think I’m living in Dobie next year. Bleh… I hope it’ll be good!
