Hi! I am an out of state applicant to UT who was just recently accepted into the school. When applying, I didn’t know that applicants were expected to apply for housing without being accepted into the school first. I only just found out today while I was doing more research into the school. Is it too late to receive housing if I apply in February? How limited in space are the dorms really? Is the alternate to school housing to find my own off campus apartment? Thanks so much
Also, to my understanding, I would have to accept the offer to UT before receiving the housing contract. I won’t hear from the rest of my schools until March. Does waiting until March (or even May 1, being the last day to make a final school decision) significantly lower my chances of receiving housing if I were to attend UT in the fall?
You only need to complete the application for housing and pay $50 to get in the queue. You can then wait till May 1 to accept admission. You should be aware that waiting till May 1 will affect your orientation date. Admitted students start signing up for orientation some time in March after paying the enrollment deposit.
@sli6764 , and YES, on campus housing is limited and goes fast, priority is set by the date you get your Housing Application submitted, period. So get it in. You could still get on campus housing now, if you get your app in quickly, but probably not your top choice(s). Off campus housing is still very popular and many are very close if not closer than some dorms are to your classes. Congrats and good luck.
My future LHD received her housing contract today. She applied to UT Austin on 8/2 and did her housing app as soon as she was eligible.
D17 also tried to apply for housing without accepting and it wouldn’t allow it. Quote from site - For new incoming students (First-Time Freshman), we will be offering contracts in housing application date order, who have accepted their admissions offer to the University. We are also waiting for more info before making a final decision.
@NotSoPatient , how soon after paying the enrollment deposit did you get your housing contract?
@Axonta She accepted her enrollment back in Dec.
Based on my research, if a student is interested in connecting/private bathrooms, the choices come down to 4 dorms: Duren, San Jacinto, Jester East and West. The other dorms all have only community baths.
