I’m afraid without auto admit or an outlier status, those numbers alone can’t get you in to UT.
Odds are against you getting into mechanical engineering but that does not mean it won’t happen. It is definitely a reach school for you. Write a great essay and see what happens. Also, find a safety school that you would like to attend. It might be A&M (which may or may not be a safety), UTD, UTA, TTU, or UH…they can all give you a great education.
ACT and SAT scores are low. Aim to get top 1% scores, then you have much better chances to get in college of engineering at UT.
Also if you win a major state or national award in science or math, that can help.

You can probably get into other colleges with good essays/rec letters/etc, but not Cockrell. Do you plan on retaking the tests?
My son got into Cockrell and Mechanical Engineering this year with similar stats as yours so it is possible. In my son’s case he will be graduating from a non-ranking private high school. His SAT was the old one 2100 which was 740 Reading and 700 Math. So that would correspond to 1440 plus I believe a bit of a bump up to correlate to the new SAT numbers. He had some state awards as well and I was told excellent essays and he submitted all three of them. Focus on everything you write in that application and make sure every word counts to represent you.
I took the ACT again and got a 32 with a 34 on math, 35 science, 32 English, and 27 reading. Do you know what percentile in his class he was?
