is it okay if we petitioned our credit even if we didn’t talk about it to our advisors??

yea, go ahead. i don’t think anyone talks with their advisors in petitioning for credit. imagine the lines if we do haha.

Pre-meds should not petition for AP credit in anything math or science related - at least not without a serious discussion with a trusted advisor.
No one should petition for AP credit in their major without talking to a trusted advisor in their major department.
Petitioning for credit for electives or distribution requirements is probably pretty safe for most people, but be careful - I don’t think this is a step that can be undone if you change your mind or find out you shouldn’t have done it.

The main thing most advisors tell you is that it could cost you your tuition rebate.

i only see my SAT scores…
does anyone know why my ap scores are not up?
i put dowm UT school code on the student answer sheets when i took AP tests.

oh crap…i made a big mistake…

i claimed credit for rhetoric, and also calculus (because of my ALEKS score)

and i’m a pre-med…

dang it…im scared…

Don’t panic. If you claimed a full year of calculus and can’t undo it and in a couple of years you applying to one or more med schools that want to see a college calculus class taken in college on your undergraduate transcript, you can take a semester of multivariate at UT and there you go - I think this will take care of that requirement.

My understanding is that there is variability among med schools as far as what they want you to have actually TAKEN as an undergrad as opposed to what they want you to have credit for, so it depends on where you are applying.

oh my god…i totally screwed myself over…

i have to talk to an adviser…

see when i registered for M408K…it said i needed to get credit…

so i petitioned…

are the advisers understanding??

i’m a bio major…natural sciences…so I have to get a 5 to skip 408C

i got a 1 on both the AB and BC test (horrible, I know, but our teacher was crap)…

so will it count…guys i think i’m done…i suck at the subject, and i made a mistake…i am ruined…

Well you won’t get credit for a 1, so you need to take M408. I am not sure what BIO requires, but I’m you have to take at least K and L.

but i got an 88 on the ALEKS…
please ppl im in a crisis…

The AP test is to exempt you from Calc, and from what I understand: you just want to know if you are allowed to take Calc?

I don’t know how grading works on the ALEKS test, so I can’t tell you what that score means. I assume it’s good enough for you to take Calc, since that tested your pre-cal knowledge. Did you take the SAT II Math (I or II) at all in the past?

Edit: Okay, I looked it up. With a score of an 88 you are qualified to take either 408C or 408K. I would suggest K for you, since it appears that your High School calc teacher didn’t really do so well.

http://web3.cns.utexas.edu/incoming-students/aleks/

so am i okay if i petitioned credit…?

can i still take calc 408k??

You did not place out of calculus from your AP scores. It appears the ALEKS test is only to see if you qualify to take caculus, or if you must start in a lower level class. If you made an 88, then you qualified to take calculus, not place out of it. What did it allow you to register for? You should be fine, but by all means, call or e-mail an advisor in your department and get a definite answer. Those of us here on CC may be brilliant : - ), but we are not the ones with the answers!

but it says that i have received credit for 408C…so, does that mean i’m done…

i know i can’t be, because i did bad on the AP tests…

this is what he wrote…

First, even though Ive met with you before, always include your EID in advising emails so the advisor can easily access your record. Thanks!

If you feel you would like to take M408K or M408C then you are free to do so. It wasnt ideal to claim M408C if you plan to take Calculus 1 again, but ultimately, it is not a horrible problem that has completely jeopardized your degree plan.

Your ALEKS score makes you eligible to take either M408K or M408C. You dont need the SAT Subject test.

Of course, having M408C credit, you can take M408L to finish your two-semester requirement for a BS BIO degree. If youre pursuing a BA BIO degree then youre done with Calculus (b/c that degree plan only requires one semester). If Calculus is a struggle for you then its understandable that you want to take Calculus 1 instead.

Let me know if you have additional questions. Dont stress, everything is OK!

so does that mean…i can still get credit for taking 408K??

Wait, I’m not quite understanding what happened. Did you petition for credit for M408C and get it, despite only getting a 1 on the AP Calc test? How did that happen?

I wasn’t even aware the petitioning had gone though yet, mine are still sitting (after a few weeks?) at ‘pending approval’. Where does it say you received credit?

it says pending approval…

so it won’t get approved right??

Correct. If you got a 1, they won’t accept it.

but i still have to pay, right??
