Hi, I have a question. Hopefully some of you guys can help me. I'm an international student, attending a community college and maintaining a GPA of 3.58. I'm planning to transfer to UT this year as an Econ major under liberal arts. My second choice would be English. However, last semester, I made a C in my Economic class because I didn't do so well in one of the papers. So my question is, should I still apply for Economics as my first major? or should I apply for English? Would it really matter since both majors fall under the same school of liberal arts?

If econ is your first choice, apply for econ. If they don't want to take you there, they'll consider you for English, and if not there as an undeclared lib arts.

In other words, put down whichever your first choice is first and your second choice is second - if they want you in either department they'll admit you to the university.

And even after that there are internal transfers within the school. I applied and was accepted as a biochemistry major transfer and after my first week of classes here realized I didn't want to take a bunch of nasty upper division math and chem courses and applied for internal transfer to the biology department. Each department will have their own standards for internal transfers (for the bio department you had to attend an info session and pass genetics) so I'd e-mail the advisers of the econ/english departments with any questions.
