I'm interested in Persuing biomedical engineering or microbiology does anyone have any opinion on these schools' programs? I may also get into the auburn honors college if that has any bearing. Thank you.

Which UT? TN or TX?

Texas sorry at austin

Does Auburn have bio-med engineering?

Are you in-state for UT or Auburn?

Did you qualify for a scholarship from Auburn?

There is only one real UT and that school is Texas.

The easy answer is that Texas is higher ranked both as a university and in pretty much every individual department so go there. As other asked, are you instate for either? Money a factor? Scholarships?

If everything is equal, UT. If not, let us know just how unequal things are in terms of money and such.

Everything is equal I’m in state for ut and got the heritage scholarship and Dickinson scholarship for auburn and Miami respectively which brings them down to IS tuition. The only other part is that I just barely meet the qualifications for the Auburn Honors college would that change the decision?

Does Auburn admit all who apply to honors that meet the minimum req’ts? If so, what’s your concern?

Auburn also has those really nice “super suites” - which, if I were you, I’d try to get. :)

I would call the Honors office on Monday to find out when they will be notifiying students. They may be able to tell you if you were admitted.

*admission in the University Honors College. Minimum requirements for admission are 1) a high school grade point average of 3.5 and 2) an ACT score of 29 or an SAT score of 1280. Selection of incoming freshmen is based on GPA, ACT/SAT scores, and evidence of the candidate’s activities and leadership.

Since you got the Heritage, that means that you have at least an ACT 30 and a 3.5 GPA. Do you have good leadership ECs?

Vpicone,

Lot of focus on these areas at the University of Miami. One advantage there will be smaller class sizes from the start (smaller, private school)

Have you visited any of these schools?

How hard will it be for you to travel if you go to UMiam or Auburn? If you go to Auburn, you might be able to drive there, which can make coming home more frequently easier and cheaper. If you go to Miami, you’d have to fly.

What part of Texas are you from (north, east, south, west)?

UT Austin hands down. UT is a much stronger school in for either of those programs (and in general, for engineering and the sciences) than Auburn or Miami. Unless there’s a compelling personal or financial reason to choose otherwise, go with UT.

Theres no real travel concerns and I have pretty decent leadership qualities. I do qualify for the Honors College at Auburn, would having the Honors College at Auburn be less respectable still when compared to UT?

UT is bomb.

My S has a BS in Microbiology and Immunology from UMiami (May 2009). He loved the dept, profs, advising and ample research opportunities associated with the program. He received very personalized attention and developed close relationships with profs and his research mentor at the med school.

Auburn is known for its engineering. I knew that when I lived in Calif working in the aerospace industry. Of course, UT is a strong name, too. However, for engineering, TAMU seemed to be perceived as better. JMO

I’m guessing that you won’t qualify for honors at UT, so you’re wondering if honors at Auburn would be impressive to employers. It’s hard to say. Does Auburn offer any honors engineering classes? If so, what do they do in those classes that is different from the regular classes?

I think at this point, it’s a personal choice. Have you visited all the schools? What do you think of them? IF your goal is to go out-of-state and get a strong engineering degree, then Auburn is fine. My H hired an Auburn grad in May and started him at $60k, which is very good for our area.

ThanKs for all your help everyone this has given me a new perspective on all of the colleges.
