Opinions wanted: Texas-Austin vs. Duke

I want to major in engineering... can anyone help me decide between UT and Duke?

Unless it's BME, UTA is probably better in just about every area of engineering. However, there are quite a few other universities that are as hard/almost as hard to get in to as Duke and better in engineering.

both are fine schools, and it isn't like employers will recruit from one school and shun the other. That being the case, choose the school you'd rather spend 4 years at.

Engineering honors? or regular? (for UT)

i'd be in honors engineering if i went to Texas

runhard, are you a runner? Are you going to run at Texas or Duke?

thanks for the input guys...

momofwildchild- it's possible that'd i run in college, altough i'm really not making it a factor in my decision process.

ummmm....is this a joke? go to duke.

"ummmm....is this a joke? go to duke."

If Duke is better in that area then by all means do. But if it isn't then I'd take offense to this. Just because Duke is more well known and prestigious doesn't mean that UT Austin is crap.

This is not a joke. In UTA Honors Engineering, there are plenty of students who could've went to Duke, Berkeley, etc.

Please don't diss UTA just because you don't know about it.

I live in Austin, UTA engineering is superb, better than duke, so I would say go for uta.

Austin's a really fun city and UT's Engineering program is ranked really well, and being in honors just means it will be EVEN better. I think with your decision you should look into geographic factors, financial factors, quality of life, etc. Both schools should offer you a superb education and job placement.

Duke engineering, except for maybe biomed, certainly isn't better than UTA. Given you're in-state, it's almost a no-brainer.
