I'm choosing between these two colleges to study Geology; I will be out-of-state for both.

From what I see, Utah is nearly half the cost, but CU is a much better ranked university.

Does anyone have any insight on these two universities?

Thank you

It entirely depends on what you can afford. If you can afford to go to Colorado without it causing any significant financial burden on you or your family, then I would definitely go with Colorado. However if that is not financially viable then Utah is still a good option.

Well the financials are there, but I’m just not sure if it’s worth it.

Over two years, CU would be $40,000 more. I’m just getting a feeling that a CU BS isn’t worth $40,000 more than a Utah one.

Maybe it is though; is it THAT much of a difference?

I’m not really sure what to make of rankings, but as I stated before, CU is ranked higher by far.

it is not worth paying 40k extra, keep your money for a top graduate school.

I think you’re probably right.

If I may ask another question, though, what if I were to throw Washington and Wisconsin into the mix. They are slightly (a couple of thousand more over two years) more expensive, but again, are also more prestigious universities.

The catch is, I would not be able to attend until the Winter Quarter/Spring Semester.

Is taking a semester off like that worth the gamble of potentially getting rejected?
