I have gotten acceptance to UTD's nanoexplorers program. Has anyone participated in it before? What's it like? I'm pretty good in biology, but very shaky in chemistry and physics. Would it be more beneficial for me to work with a biology professor separately, or should I go for Nanoexplorers? Which one would look better on a resume?

Thanks!

In b4 “it’s not about looking good on your resume…” Yeah, okay.

I’m tempted to say, if biology is your stronger subject, and you have some ideas to work with and/or know a professor that would be willing to overshadow some research, choose that.

But, keep in mind that Nanoexplorers could also spark an enitrely new interest in you… nanobiotechnology is a growing field in the nanotech realm. New applications of carbon to organic life are unfolding each day (no pun intended), so it is a perfect candidate for pioneering. There will likely be an explosion in demand in this field within the next decade or two.

Either of these two opportunities will prove to colleges that you didn’t spend your summer wasting away… so choose the one that seems more intellectually rigorous and, one of the most important reasons, practical.

Hi Copycat,
When and how were you notified about Nanoexplorers? My son applied and we haven’t heard anything yet. The website says students will be notified “on or before May 6th”. What did you decide? Are you going to go?

I haven’t heard back yet either and I’m pretty sure it’s a sign of rejection. I called their office but nobody was picking up and I also emailed them few hours ago, but still haven’t gotten a response.
I was really looking forward to this too…

DreamOnForever,
You are probably right about not getting in. However, they should still let us know. I guess I’ll email them on Monday if I don’t hear from them before then. I wonder if they emailed all who were accepted on 4/30.

I agree crickettoo, they really should inform us about their decisions. It’s rather frustrating for us who could’ve applied to other programs at last minute or at least start preparing alternative plans instead of this program.

I just looked back at the website and it says, “Applicants selected for the program will be notified by email on or before May 6”. So, I guess that means that if you were not notified, then you were not accepted. Still, an email would have been nice.

I guess that makes sense, but ya an email would be really nice. Especially if you can know a week or two weeks earlier of the decision.

Hey. I’m applying to the program this year. Was it hard to get it? I notice that it’s from a pool of over 100+ students. How did you fair against other applicants. What is it about you that stood out? Thanks.

Hello people !
Is this program better than TAMS research?
