After talking to some people about UTD, I have heard that it is full of nerdy and unsocial students. I'm pretty smart so some people consider me nerdy, but I do like to socialize and have fun. My question is if there there is a lot of interacting on campus and at the dorms or do most people stay secluded?

If you want a social life, there definitely is one that exists here. Do the nerdy/antisocial people exist; yes. But, they really aren’t too relevant. You really don’t see them. And many of the most intelligent people here like to have fun. This year’s freshman class has already built a party reputation. I’m sure that things will only improve as the years go on. The dorms really do help you meet people, but make sure to put yourself out there, otherwise you may have a little difficulty.

Truth. The dorms really changed the social environment of the school. I never had the chance to live there, but it seems like it gives a much more community and social aspect that is pretty nonexistent living in the apartments

@bigreddawgie - Since you didn’t live in the dorms, how easy/difficult was it to make friends at UTD? If I go to UTD then I plan on living off campus.

I lived on campus (dorms werent built yet when I was a freshman). It wasnt hard to make friends. I knew a lot of people in my building, and I was pretty active on campus my freshman year so I met a ton of people that way.

If you are truly a social person…you will make plenty of friends. If you are the type that claims to be social but is only interested in just standing around and watching the action…then that is all that you will be doing at UTD.

UTD is best for go-getters and self-starters.

Yeah UTD is pretty much for people who are pretty much only focused on school and just kinda show up for class, study and then leave. Most of the students there don’t hang around and socialize like some other schools from what I’ve seen. I liked it because it’s laid back but a lot of the students struck me as being shy and more to them selves.

Not sure about the dorms though.

Go Greek, best decision of my life. I went from not having anything to do on the weekends to having like ten options. If not Greek then get super involved in a student organization that will give you a support network as well
