Hey! I recently applied to the Bioengineering BS/MD Program at the University of Toledo and was wondering if anyone could share any information on it such as how the interview went, difficulty of the program, etc. Thanks!

no idea but i had read somewhere they only take 10 people and its 8 yrs

Hi, i applied there as well, what are your stats?

^^It is 8 years, but still is accelerated. It is coop in undergrad (Biomedical Engineering). If you get into BS/MD, than undergrad is 4 years instead of 5 for normal coop. Huge plus - no MCAT, just have to get GPA=3.5 in undergrad. Another advantage, if you decided not to go to Med. school at all, you have your engineering degree, which is by itself is very good and your employment is pretty much lined up since you were part of coop. On the other hand, Med. Schools are looking very favorably to Biomedical engineering vs Biology. Any engineering program is much more challenging than most others (including Biology) undergrads. During presentation, doc. from Med. School indicated that Biomedical engineers usually have much better understanding of how human body operates.

They do take only 10 people. Interview last year was very late and it is very long. However, there were not many people applied, since the program is relatively unknown. Advise - go to Biomedical Engineering presentation when invited. It is very informative.

Thanks for your responses so far! Pdota, I recently found out that I got an interview, how about you?

I havent heard anything yet, did u get it by mail or e-mail?

Email but they said that an official letter would follow. I think I interview on the 7th

miamidap,i saw u were accepted there, what are the stats of people applied, interviewed and accepted?

Hi, I recently got a letter from UT stating that I got into the bioengineering program. I called the Admission Director to find out when I had an interview, but he said that since I am out-of-state, I didn't have an interview. I asked him if I was in the program, and he said (and I quote) "definitely".
Anyone else apply out of state to UT BS/MD? He said that there were only like 2 students admitted out of state.

Maharbal,
Please share your stats!

I applied out of state too. I am positive for the BS/MD program you need an interview. All i know is interviews are held the 7th and 14th. You must only be admitted to the bioengineering portion is what i am guessing.

I am out of state also and applied to the BS/MD. I've already been accepted to the regular program and just got a scholarship letter from Toledo in the mail today...thats about it so far.

Yes, I have actually got my scholarship letters a while back.

Well I was instate so I'm assuming that Toledo gives preference to instaters rather than out of staters. However, this only speculation on my part. Looking at the requirements for the program, I met them all but did not greatly exceed them so I'm sure there's a good chance of many people getting an interview. I talked to the program coordinator and she told me that at least 40 applicants applied this year. So if they accept 10, I'm sure they interview at least 25-30 people for this program.

Well, I didn't exceed the requirements by a whole lot either.
Pretty sad when the admissions director didn't know what he was talking about. He told me that I "was already accepted."
What a load of bull.

I dont know man you really might be. But, the one in charge of the program is a lady not a man.

Her name is Winona Porath. I remember calling her to make sure all my app. materials were in. I guess she just gets the apps and sends them to a committee, you might want to call her, the info is on the website for the BS/MD program.

did anyone else get an interview or know anything new?

I just got an interview by the way.

goodluck man when r u going,my cousin is there
