uTorrent Help!

I'm trying to download an episode of Prison break from uTorrent.

I've never ever used anything like this before (and all these torrent things) and I'm very un-computer-y so I'm really confused...

I've downloaded the episode torrent thing on some website and I put it on uTorrent.

However it says that my 14540934029 port (i cant remember the number) is not open. So I tried to open it.
I went on this website and it told me to do a couple of things such as getting a Static IP address. I went to the run program in the start up menu and did some weird things such as writing down my Subnet Mask number and Defult Gateway number and all those weird things.

In the end I got all confused, frightened and worried that I was gonna blow up my laptop so I just gave up on opening my 239420945 port.

And for some time, the downloading was all good, but it was just downloading really slow - like 60 kbps per second or something (is that slow?).
And then it just came to a complete stop and now it wont download! It is currently 19.5% downloaded.
I've got a lot of 'Peers' and 'Seeds' for that episode, whatever that means.

So what's wrong? My internet seems to be working fine. Is it because I didn't open up my 29893844 port?
please help! :)

Process is WAY too long and rather varied, so just go here and follow their directions.

Have fun torrenting! I had the same problem back when I started, and since I was a moron, didn't think of looking around and had to figure it out myself... >_<

Oh no! That link is the place I went to before, to open my port but I didn't understand lol

I got up to the part where I had to type in the IP address into the adress bar of my firefox browser. But I kept getting the "error- site could not be found" message. So I gave up there...

Hmm. Do you know your IP address? It seems that it may not be the default one. You'll have to find out to continue. Many sites will tell you your IP address (a bit freaky, actually), or you could ping, but you might as well go with the former, since it is easy.

one word: DC++

Go to whatsmyipaddress.com, that's an easy way to find your external IP.

Thanks guys, i'll try that out.

Ok well I actually ended up all the way to the last step - opening the port by clicking submit.

But it says 501 error or soemthing :(

I was just wondering if you MUST have the port opened for downloading? Because as I mentioned before, the episode did download 19.5% of it without the opened port.

why don't you go to fanpop and watch the episodes there? they have links for almost all popular TV shows including all seasons of 24. if you want to dowload them, use the video downloader widget for opera or the extension for firefox. you can then convert those flv files to mpeg or something. it's a lot easier and faster than bittorrent.

ask on a computer forum,

Then your port probably doesn't need triggering, and you just had bad seeds, or were dropped. Try a different torrent.

Thanks fuzzylogic. I'm going there now to check it out.
Entity, lol thanks that clears a lot up! I think I'll do that - if the fanhop thing doesnt work.

Idk if this has already been said, too lazy to read the thread.

You can't use firefox to access your router, you have to use IE.

router = IP address in the address bar?

If that's correct, it worked on firefox...
Thanks for the advice anyway.

I like fanhop but the episode I'm looking for is ep14 and it's not there yet... but I might go see some Lost! Thanks fuzzylogic.

no problem. but this stays between us. i don't want no government agents descending on my house. ;)
