I realize that it's very highly regarded in Texas, but I'm curious as to how a UT degree would be perceived by employers in other parts of the country. I'm originally from New York and would like to move back there after I graduate. If there are any UT grads living in the northeast reading this, I would really appreciate it if you shared your experiences.

Well, several of the colleges within UT have pretty outstanding national ratings. An aunt of mine who previously lived in New York went to UT for engineering then returned to her home state. From what I understand, she has a great job back in NY as a structural engineering, making lots of money, happy with the job and such.

I’m a structural engineer, also! UT is ranked #4 in the country for civil engineering. I know the school’s excellent reputation helped my husband and me get our first jobs, here in Maine. One boss told me he could tell I had a much stronger education than his employee who went to a northeastern school.
