UTSC Dorming

Okay, I just wanted to present a scenario to you. I'm currently looking to go to UTSC (UoT Scarborough) for neuroscience. I wanted your advice on dorming.

I just moved to Canada from the United States. I'm currently living in Brampton, which is about 52 kilometers away from Scarborough. My parents want me to commute, because they want to save money that way. The question I have for people who have gone to UTSC is, is it worth staying on or near the campus? I have only two friends in the country atm, and I don't think just being able to go to class will be enough to be a part of the university (in terms of participation). At the same time, I heard there are a lot of commuters because the campus isn't exactly famous for its on- campus environment. Also, commuting might save me money. But then at the same time, commuting will also cost money so its not like I'm spending zero dollars on transportation.

Basically, this is my situation. What would you recommend I do? Not dorming may allow me to stay debt- free, but every person I have spoken to with the exception of one has said that staying on- campus is very important to getting the whole college experience. Advice?

Brampton is much too far away…I hate that town…sorry I grew up there. LOL… Why did you not consider UTM?..I had friends from Bramalea who commuted to there. Make sure you do frosh week!!!

My family’s move was sudden and I did not know my entire family was going to be living in Canada. If I had known, UTM would’ve been first choice

Are you saying Brampton is too far away because you hate it, or because you think that its a long commute? I’m slightly confused haha

I hate Brampton and it also is too far to commute. Live on residence and work part time on campus that should help.
