UVA Admissions - Language preference

I know the UVA admissions web site states a minimum of 2 years of language for applicants. Our schools guidance has always counseled it would be highly recommended that the student have 4 years of the same language on their transcript. I have never seen any distinction between modern and ancient languages.

How would an applicant be viewed as a prospect with 4 years of Latin and, in addition, freshman and sophmore years of Spanish?

I'd say that they'll note that you've completed your language requirements but it won't relaly make you stand out from other applicants. You'll need to distinguish yourself with other aspects of your application.
