<p>UVA doesn't offer merit scholarships. The alumni association gives around 30 Jefferson Scholarships which are based on merit and extracurricular achievement/leadership. If you were an underrepresented minority, there would be a good number more scholarships available to you.</p>
<p>jags, I think that there are actually a few "at large" nominations for the Jefferson Scholarship that are given by the office of admission.</p>
<p>That's still pretty cool :) I remember reading on the Echols website stuff about students with near perfect stats not getting it because lack of ECs or poorly written essays (I doubt the latter will happen, I'm quite good at writing) but could the former be my downfall in regards to becoming an echols scholar?</p>
<p>Lack of ECs? You have plenty of ECs. Not everyone can say they had 1200 hours of lab work under their belt. Also being in an leadership position in 8 clubs is nothing to take lightly.</p>
