UVa CAS or NYU Stern (plz)???

Hey, everyone, this is the first time I write a thread here. A little nervous, lol.

I am a recent Asian immigrant, outgoing and flexible. But I am not very Americanized.

When I applied for NYU Stern, G-town and UVa, I had not thought to get to choose any of them. Now, I am in a serious headache choosing between UVa and Stern.

In term of money, maybe my family income is really low. UVa offer me a lot of aid so I basically do not have to pay for even room and board. For NYU, I was selected a 20k scholarship as well. To my surprise, money now is not as a big issue as I pictured before.
I like UVa a lot in term of the school style and reputation. I also like NYU for its opportunities.

But the thing is that, for Stern, I would probably live at home for Stern though cause the living at the city is crazy. UVa offer me full ride include living, but there seems not as many opportunities as the city.

I am more a person who would consider every aspects and Here I have some questions:

If I enroll UVa, I surely work extremely hard, how difficult to get into Mcintire?
(Is everyone at UVA CAS planning to get into Mcintire?)

Does UVa offer students (freshmen & sophomore ) job opportunities during summer and school year?

How is the competition at UVA and Stern. (getting A?)

If I get into Mcintire, which ranking I should trust, BW or US News?

How is the culture there at UVa and Virginia? (Do they hate APA student since there was a tragedy on 2007?)

Which school has a better reputation at Wall St.?

I have been asking around but even my mentor says vague things and I cannot make a choice right now. I hope fellows here can give me some insight or experience. I am still kinda fresh off the boat and not so many relatives and friends can help me.

Never expect to get to choose bewteen these two, my lovers… plz help me, any comment will be appreciated!

please help me, sigh…

UVA is an excellent school, far better in my opinion than NYU. Coupled with the near-full ride, you really can’t go wrong. Best of luck!

bump! plz…

NYU-Stern is among the top five business schools. Actually number two in certain areas. I don’t know much about UVA except that its a good state school. It depends what kind experience you want.

For overall success in business, go to NYU-Stern

Thanks ElizaB and kmhuether

Hi there,

My name is Zack and I am an UVa student in the McIntire School. If put in your situation, I will definitely choose UVa and then try to get in McIntire. McIntire is ranked the top undergraduate business program in the nation by BusinessWeek, and ranked 6th by U.S. News. If you can get around 3.6 and 3.8 on GPA for the first 3 semesters (and have some extracurricular activities), you can call yourself secured for a spot in McIntire. If for any reason you mess up, you can still do econ + math major and get equally good jobs.

NYU may be a more exciting place to live because it’s in New York. But at UVa you won’t have less opportunities. All major corporations come here to recruit, and a lot of our Commerce students end up working on Wall Street, not to mention UVa’s overall ranking is higher than NYU (#23 vs #33). Some of my friends from NYU actually told me that the city is a distraction to them because there are way too much to do! Charlottesville, instead, is a serene little town and you still can find some fun stuff to do.

In sum, full ride + better overall ranking + better business school (according to BusinessWeek) + less distraction. UVa is the way to go.
