NYU Stern vs UVA

I've narrowed my options down to UVA and Stern. I want to get into investment banking, and I know both schools have pretty nice business/finance programs. Could anyone give me advice on which to pick? Here's my list of pros/cons:

NYU:
Pros- It's in NYC, so nice internship opportunities plus the city itself is amazing, very intensive business education, excellent recruiting
Cons- NO CAMPUS, maybe a lack of a liberal arts education, cut-throat due to the Stern curve, maybe the quality of life is worse

UVA:
Pros- Beautiful campus, McIntire has good recruitment from what I've heard, departments outside of business are really good too, good social life
Cons- Maybe not as prestigious, resulting in less job opportunities than Stern, you don't learn your business specialization until your 4th year meaning you may not know enough for summer analyst positions, 15,000 students (and I've heard stuff about a preppy vibe).

(posted in the UVA forum as well)

You really can’t go wrong with NYU or UVA because they are both ultra-competitive and have TERRIFIC recruiting meaning you’ll have great opportunities at internships/jobs right out of graduation.

If you want to major in finance, I would say go to Stern simply because it has the #2 rated finance program in the country and has great placement.

If you want summer positions or easy access to Wall Street internships during the year then go to Stern because you could actually commute there due to being in the city. You also might be able to get more Wall Street contacts (networking) quicker.

In terms of long term success UVA and NYU are very close.

I had to make the same choice and chose NYU. I visited both and did not get the right feeling at UVA. Too many people from Virginia, too fratty/preppy (exactly like my high school), and meh location (had a ton of trouble flying into Charlottesville, and it’s too provincial). You can’t really top NYC, can ya? Also UVA doesn’t hold the international reputation of Stern (I’m an international student). However money definitely comes into play and if you are in-state for UVA, I would say go to UVA. NYU is expensive.

international reputation doesnt matter much unless you’re trying to IB in Singapore or something. UVA is a real college experience. NYU is not even college. You’re a full blown adult living in NYC minus a real job. And I’ve heard the older freshamn dorms have rats (if you like rats I guess this doesnt matter much). You’ll get NYC internships from UVA. You dont have to live in NYC to work in NYC.I think the advantage of location in NYC is a little overblown. I’m not saying it’s not advantageous, it just shouldnt be a deciding factor.

Wow, not all the older frosh dorms have rats. Hayden’s the only dorm notorious for this. Also, location should be a deciding factor in choosing a college. Your location determines the type of environment you’ll spend 4 years in, and your environment will help shape the type of college experience you’ll have. Also, on that location thing, there are firms that only come to recruit at NYU/Columbia because they don’t have the resources to recruit anywhere far away.

I think it boils down to cost and fit here. If UVA’s cheaper, go UVA. If cost is not a problem, decide based on the culture of the two schools and your personal preference. Also, keep in mind that your admission to McIntire is by no means guaranteed.

is uva accsb accredited?
